Time to leave the GOP?
1stfreedom

Posted on 03/31/2005 7:39:11 AM PST by 1stFreedom

For over a decade I’ve tried to convince people in the pro-life movement that leaving the Republican Party wasn’t a good move. The past few days has changed my mind, and I started to write this article when the news broke that Terri died.

Florida has shown us that the best that the GOP has to offer is a losing strategy.

For decades abortion has remained “legal” due to the same problems which were present in Florida: an arrogant judiciary and an unwilling executive branch.

The call for Jeb to refuse to enforce the illicit orders of Judge Greer went unheeded. As a direct result, Jeb’s actions sanctioned the starvation of Terri Schiavo. His Pontius Pilate approach to saving her life hasn’t fooled the pro-life base.

His public denial that there wasn’t anything more he could do was a slap in the face to the pro-life movement and to Terri’s parents. It is well known that he indeed had these ORDINARY powers as the Governor of the State of Florida.

If this is the strategy the GOP has to reign in the Judiciary, then it’s time to find another party. It is simply not acceptable that someone could be starved to death in the United States of America with “legal” sanction.

But where does one go? Many of the alternative parties are too idealistic or too focused on history to reach a broad spectrum of people. And some of the names are quite silly….

In my mind, an ideal third party candidate would appeal to socially conservative Republicans, Regan democrats, and minorities. A coalition party can indeed win…

What are your thoughts?

Really? Consider the Catholic vote in States like Wisconsin, Illinois, California, and New York....

They won't be rubbing thier hands in glee if they lose this segment..

Yep.

Too bad.

Don't complain. We asked for it.

Many of the alternative parties are too idealistic...

What you envision is a prime example of that.

Leave. Go join Michael and the other supporters of the culture of death who seek to destroy the GOP by attacking the one party, the one President and the one Governor that actually took action on Terri's behalf. There is no room for ungrateful backstabbers in the republican or conservative movement.

You have a promlem with a binary solution set. Either you vote for the republicans or the democrats.

I look at matters from a constitutional baseline, not an emotional one. Take the matter in its entirety and vote for which candidate is closer to constitutional government.

Uh, I don't think you want to hear my thoughts, and if I posted them, they'd be pulled. Perhaps this thread will be pulled, too.

>>how much will the pro-life movement gain if politicians like Hillary get elected because lots of people don't vote GOP?

Abortion is still "legal" with the GOP virtually running everything. Florida shows just how seriously that take the root of the problem. What exactly are we losing?

I've posted this before and will again.

I share your sentiments about the tragedy in Florida and I too feel like more could have been done, but I think you are sounding like this right wing talk show host, Michael SAvage. Before you blame republicans and our president I suggest you read Ann Coulter's article today. (please see: http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/coulter1.asp )

Anyway, regarding Michael Savage, I heard him for the first time about two weeks ago. He was singing the praises of George Bush for flying to DC to sign the bill asking for a federal court review of judge Greer's decision, (a Clinton appointee?)

The last few nights he has changed his tune and has been lambasting the Bush Boys for "doing nothing." I think these are dangerous statements that will undermine any positive that may come out of this terrible tragedy--namely a hard boiled look at our court system.

We do not live in a monarchy, Mr. SAvage. We have a govt with three branches. The least powerful used to be the judicial. We now realize that it is the most powerful maybe next to talk show host bullies like you.

The parents were willing to bear the burden of her care plain and simple. They filed to obtain guardianship when they believed the husband had a conflict of interest and was not speaking for what was in the best interest of their daughter.

The husband's custody or right to speak for his wife should have ended at the very least, when he had the first child with his common law wife and when there was a clear conflict of interest.

Greer was convinced that TErri had clearly expressed her desire not to be on life support of any kind.

But this post is more about this guy SAvage and his new bandwagon which is to undermine our President. I find him offensive and boorish. People call in and he cuts them off.
I mean hangs up on them. He's as bad as we say the far left Michael Moore's are.

I'm conservative republican and believe with most of what SAvage was saying a couple weeks ago, but I am extremely upset with the what he is saying about our president now.

Allot of people from both sides of the aisle agreed that what happened in Florida was wrong.

Bush is not our King, and cannot act like one. If this case makes us look long and hard at the abusive power of our court system and results in fixing it, then Terri did not die in vain but for all of us.

This Atrocity is Judicial Murder by Starvation and Dehydration

ALL JUDGES INVOLVED SHOULD BE IMPEACHED FOR CONSIPIRACY TO MURDER

Pinellas county, Florida subhuman murderer Judgenfuhrer Greer:
"Tonight begins Holocaust Remembrance Month.
Never forget that we Judges in Florida --who rule you and let you live at our convenience--
celebrate Holocaust Remembrance Month with our worldwide public
2 week starvation-execution of a young handicapped woman.
Now that America's honor is finished in the eyes of the World, thanks to me and my black-robed Mullahs,
you have no more hope. So you WILL serve us,
and then quietly and meekly die after we have enough of your money
or are in sudden need your organs for ourselves or the PRC.
"
