Word For The Day, Wednesday, March 30, 2005 - sashay
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary ^ | 03/30/2005 | The Janitor

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

sashay \sash-AY\ verb

1. to make the sliding dance step called chasse
2a. walk, glide, go
2b. to strut or move about in an ostentatious or conspicuous manner *
2c. to proceed or move in a diagonal or sideways manner

* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.

Example sentence:
Cameras flashed and fans screamed as the latest pop princess sashayed down the red carpet.

Did you know?
The French verb "chasse" ("to make a sliding dance step") danced into English unaltered in the early 19th century, but as the word gained popularity in America people often had difficulty pronouncing and transcribing its French rhythms. By 1836, "sashay" had begun to appear in print in American sources. Authors such as Mark Twain, Zora Neale Hurston, and John Updike have all since put their names on the word's dance card and have enjoyed the liveliness and attitude "sashay" adds to descriptions of movement. They and many, many others have helped "sashay" slide away from its French dance origins to strut its stuff in descriptions of various walks and moves.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

My stepdaughter did make odd mounds of clothes before putting them in the hamper.
Seemed to be some religious ceremony.
Sometimes the mounds of clothes looked like some odd ritualistic warding talisman or something.
Like a circle of protection or something.

Who would, like, you know, actually want to "handle" dirty clothes again?

(Shudders....)

Once is enough.

You do laundry the way Cook cooks.

Sweetie pie, you separate darks (cold water) lights (warm water, perm press cycle) and whites (hot water). You see if you do the darks in hot water, they lose their color and the fabric turns really gnarly after a few washings. If you do the whites in cold water, they don't look clean.

You can't possibly be telling Darksheare how to do laundry. It's like the blind leading the blind.

Oh, and why can't guys hear the dryer go off? Dryer deaf?

I find if the clothes are not new, you can do them all in warm water.

That's why I keep the laundry basket in the closet. It has three separate spaces: dark blue for darks; light green for lights; and white for whites.

I'm kinda bad though, I leave my used clothes at night on the chest on the bottom of the bed.

I heard teh dryer go off.
But the dryer itself is kinda busted.
It runs backwards, stays in the same dial position for half an hour, or shuts off mid cycle.

Yeah. I know the washer well. She is always possessed.

(Re-arranges the stuff in the dishwasher too. )

Well-Busted dryers are always good.

(Especially without clothes on them.)
