Why is it easier to stand up to Saddam than to George Greer?

Where is the vaunted "courage" of our president? A woman is being deliberately starved by order of a backwater state judge.

In 1961, John F. Kennedy sent federal troops to make sure a single African American - James Meredith - could attend the University of Alabama. Doesn't Terri Schiavo deserve to be protected against a backward Southern state's denial of her right to life?

Is it possible that the fact that Terri is being denied Easter communion might touch our president's heart?

Why was it so much easier to call out Saddam, than to tell George Greer to go to hell? MR. BUSH, SHOW SOME COMPASSION - AND SOME SPINE! SHE ISN'T DEAD YET. YOU CAN STILL RESCUE HER - AND FOIL BASTARD GREER'S EVIL PLAN.

"another anti-Bush rant"

Not to worry. Terri will soon be dead and cremated, and everyone on FR can go back to praising the president

Less than 3% to turn on the Republicans, that is all it takes."""

Another good reason why both Bush brothers should find their voices and speak out in defense of Terri - and then rescue her.

And you'd like nothing more than to see Republicans lose. You're so transparent it isn't even funny.

The main blame here isn't for Bush. It's for the 65% or so in Pinellas and Pasco counties who voted for Greer in 2004.

The blood is on their hands as much as Greer's.

You're transparently unconcerned about the judicial murder taking place in Florida. Fine, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Sorry, don't buy it. When the Bush brothers stand by and let it happen, they share in the blame. George Wallace had been elected by a majority of Alabamians - - that didn't stop JFK from sending troops to force Wallace to let a black man into his state's university. Kennedy didn't defer to local segregationist judges or the polls in Alabama.

I still haven't been given an answer: If Bush can stare down Saddam, why is he intimidate by a tinpot backwater county judge in Florida?

I'm praying too - - -but I'm also hoping it's not too late to shame our leaders into rescuing her. That's my whole point in these posts - - - I want to believe that the two Bush brothers (unlike, say, a clinton) can still be cajoled - or shamed - into doing their duty, and stop the killing of this innocent woman.

This is out of the President's hands. You'll have to ask Jeb and the Florida Republicans.

"Not even the Supreme Court could declare slavery to be legal."

Yes they could, if they decided to. In this hypothetical scenario of judiciary abuse, would the President or the Congress be Constitutionally able to overrule or reverse such a gross violation of the Constitution? Well if so, then they have the power to overrule ANYTHING a judge rules that blatantly violates a person's Constitutional rights.

And Terri Schiavo is being starved to death by judicial order even though several doctors have declared she is not in a PVS. (One of those doctors was on a team appointed by the Court). Her civil and religious rights are being trampled on and most folks know that, (though some diehard partyline people will never admit it).

Oh, I agree. But he hasn't shown leadership in this crisis. The closest he got to commenting on Terri's fate - "let's err on side of life" - was pitiful; supporting Terri isn't ERRING. He was conceding the game to the pro-death side right there. And he hasn't said anything since. He gives the impression he's cowering in a rabbit hole. You're right, he's a nice man. But as a leader, he leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm sorry, but wishing people a Happy Easter as Terri lies starving by judicial decree, seems hollow. It's not going to be a nice Easter. that doesn't mean Easter doesn't have meaning - but I can't put on a smiley face this year.

What "leadership" is there to be shown? I mean outside of storming the hopsice in front of massed media with an axe to grind?

The President and his brother have done all they could.

I also have a strong feeling that Terri Schaivo's death will hurt the Dems very badly in the weeks and months to come. Espcially in '06 and '08.

Jack.

The local police will not stand up to 50 armed State Troopers, a hundred or so National Guardsmen, and the Governor of Florida's proclamation.

Maybe Dubya could soften up the local cops with air stikes first. That's just nuts. America is not going to support the Federal Government taking out local police officers. This is a prescription for Dubya's impeachment.
