From WHAS11 News and The Associated Press
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A shooting incident Wednesday left one person dead, and a Metro Louisville police officer died later at University Hospital.
A police spokesman said a gunshot wound to the person who was killed was apparently self-inflicted. No other details of the incident were immediately available.
The shooting happened about 7 a.m. EST. The Jefferson County coroners office confirmed one person was dead.
Police blocked interstate ramps and downtown streets in rush-hour traffic to clear a path for the ambulance carrying the police officer to a hospital.
Officer Peter Grignon, 28, was sworn in by Mayor Jerry Abramson two years ago. Grignon served with Metro Police's 2nd Division.
As a wife and mother of Firefighters, we know every time the call goes out - a chance is taken. Whether Police, Fire , or EMS - these people defend our Homefront everday. Prayers for all involved. More should be available later today. The shooting occurred not long ago, and the officer's family is still at the Hospital.
