The leg strap wraps under the butt cheek and would, so one would think, inch downward.
Plus the stitch junction between strap and, er, 'modesty' cotton covering would be uncomfortable I assume.
They may even lever forward and uncover stuff should you lean forward.

Yeah exactly, this brings up the broader question of the real function is of these thongs on most days. For guys it manages the equipment, but for women...? And the fact that all-but-pointless thongs of this type are considered acceptable designs just reinforces my impression.
I should know the answer to this, I've just never asked I guess.

As a woman I'll tell you the purpose of a thong.
It's so that when a woman bends or sits the enticing lacy panty will show and men will become turned on. That's the purpose and any woman that says different is lying. :-)

Some women are comfortable wearing no underwear (Ashley Judd's infamous award show peekaboo comes to mind...), but for me, I wear jeans all the time, and the denim would just be too rough on that particular part of my anatomy. Unless I switch to skirts/dresses all the time (which will never happen), panties are a must.
