WEll, I've really come to the conclusion that my mare is not pregnant anymore. I really took a good look at her, and there is no way she can have a foal inside. Her underline is nice and tight and sloops up at the back like a horse in good condition would look. Her sides are not bulging out at all when you look down her from the front. Even with Dot who was a small foal, the last month you knew she was pregnant from her shape. It's just not there this time.

I will wait till Thurs, her due date, but unless something major changes which now I do not expect at all, I'll call the vet. I need to take Harley in anyway to get some shots for the Tx. trip, and I'll take her too.

I'm remembering her behavior after she had been here awhile when she was showing all signs of being in a heat cycle. I know I read that that can be normal, but she was really really showing heat signs.

I am going to be very very surprised if she has one. I just can't figure out why three months ago there was a live foal in her, and how I could have missed her loosing it. But I really think she has.

Becky

I know it seems implausible to have missed her losing it, but at this late date I don't see how you could miss it if she was still pregnant.

What was the test method three months ago? Was she palpated?

~Might~ she have not been pregnant then either?

Surely you would have noticed if she dropped the foal.. and she can't reabsorb it at that stage... can she?

I've really come to the conclusion that my mare is not pregnant anymore...

Well I hate to hear that! You mare sounds like she did the same thing Bluebell did. It sure is disappointing. I was all set to take her back to the stallion yesterday but the guy called and asked me to wait until Wednesday because he had one mare that had her foal early and didn't have any milk and some other mares there and didn't really have any place to put her right now. Oh well. At least he caught me before I left the house.

On a better note, I rode her on Saturday afternoon and she did really well for a horse that hadn't been ridden in 6 years. She doesn't know a bit from Adam's house-cat, but she responds to leg pressure really well and she's got a VERY fast walk and a really nice smooth rack. I just rode her for about an hour around the farm, but I took her over logs and around farm machinery and she took it all in stride. She didn't much like the bulldozer, but with a little encouragement, went on past it. I may try her out on a short ride out at the horse camp this weekend with just a friend or two.

I took off work this past Friday and went riding at a local horse campground, but didn't want to take her on that long a ride so I took Blade. On Saturday, we went on a nice organized ride at a different place to benefit the American Cancer Society but I didn't want to get her out in that large a crowd just yet. Nothing like getting dumped in front of 100 people. Some others did though. It's amazing how many people will take a green horse out on that kind of ride. Gives the rest of us some entertainment though. ;o)
