The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I went out and got Harley saddled, then came in for lunch. I'm just about done, then heading out to ride him a bit.

I'm worrying now that all my horses are so out of shape, I'd better just maybe do the same routine with all of them. I am going to trail ride a little on him, then come back and do the cavaletti excersice. But I'm not going to work him more then an hour. Then I'll do Rusty's 15 minutes.

Hi! Quiet on here today~ We have been to get 500lb of feed. We only took my van. When we take Deaconjims truck we will get more on the one trip.
Tommy was miserable and tired on the journey, and it reminded us of something that Jacob said when he was just about 3 years old. We were in the durrango on vacation in Tenessee, and he was crabby and miserable with that bottom lip out as far as he could go, we were laughing at him and he turned round to Emma who was sitting next to him and said "If people laughed at horses, they would BITE them. "
We almost went of the road after that one! What a warning!
: )

Hopefully you won't have the same problems with the others coz they haven't had as long a layoff period as Rusty had. But bringing them up gradually won't hurt anything if you have the time to do it. I'm doing good to get to ride Blade once a week so the poor little bugger just has to deal with it. I rode him yesterday for about 4 hours and he did really well. He's beginning to get his stamina built back up after having a pretty slack winter and I can tell the difference in his gait.

I'm also taking Bob(TheBiter) to have his noogies nipped this afternoon. ;o) He'll be 2 years old next monday so I figured it was about time. He pulled his little trick of jumping up on Blade's back again on Sunday when I was trying to get Blade back through the pasture gate. It's aggravating as heck when he does that. I was whipping him for all I was worth and he wouldn't get down. I wish I'd had my little video camera, but the I ran the battery down out on the trail and I didn't get any decent video anyways. Poor ol' Blade was trying to get away from him but I had him by the lead. I finally had to just let go and let him get him off by himself. He really wasn't trying to breed him coz he didn't have his "equipment" out so I'm not sure exactly what the deal is about that. Maybe it's just a dominance thing coz he only does it when Blade has been gone, like on a trail ride, and then comes back. Whatever it is, it's fixing to stop, courtesy of "Dr. Knife". ;o)

um, poor Bob!
Thunder and Adge will be "taken care of" as soon as they reach 6 months, (I think this is the age the vet said he liked to do it....) and if we still have Lightning, he will be robbed too.
I am going to clean out my Sienna van, I dont know how it gets so "crumby" inside! The kids are supposed to eat the chips, not spill them on the floor! I might just let the dogs get in there first! LOL I am thinking about trading it, so I thought i'd get it cleaned up first! It's only 2004 but I'm considering getting a crew cab truck instead.

Well, I have two horses exercised for the day. They both did very well with the cavaletti's. I only had to get off one time with Rusty to straighten one up he kicked.

Harley did them fine. But I think he did them alot last year at that jumper trainer's. I also trail rode him about 45 minutes. But all at the walk.

I think I'm going to go see if I can get my mower going. I've just got a few spots in the yard where some weeds have grown tall, and to mulch up some leaves.

I've never asked my vet if he has a preferred time, I'll have to remember to do that today. But I just always liked to wait until they got a little age on them. It may just be my imagination, but I think it lets them get a little more masculine looking. I hate to do it because it makes them so sore for a month or so, but I sure don't need a stallion around right now.

LOL

I tried leading a gelding one time thru Rocky's run when we first got him. I never dreamed he would mount the poor guy. But he did. Rocky had only been halter bred so when he saw this horse in his run with a halter I guess he thought it was time to do his thing:)

If Belle's foal is a colt, I'll have him gelded as soon as I can.

I'd love to have one, preferably a 1 ton 4x4 diesel. Now if I could just get it to run on french fry oil I'd have it made. The price of diesel is just outrageous!

Whew! Finished sweeping out what seemed like endless crunbs! Quite a nice vehicle under all that mess! LOL
Hot and dusty and exhausted right now.
Gas prices have rocketed here, we managed to find a place at $2.13 but most are $2.23, diesel is even higher so deaconjim with his ford350 long bed crewcab monster might have to walk soon! Still I can't complain, my friends in England pay over $6 for a gallon.

I don't know how to do it, but some people have been running diesels on veggie oil. I think Willie Nelson's busses run on soybean oil.

Loving every minute of it, of course. I'm really ashamed to accept a paycheck. I feel like I should be paying them....

O.k., the boss is gone now. I can get back to hating my job.

Couple of points....
Most vegetable oil is hydrogenated(solid at room temp)it has to be heated before it can flow.
It has to be filtered to 0.5 micron due to large # of contaminants(mostly in used fry oil)in other words BIG filter!
It can only be used in in line pumps(94-97 dodge, pre 85 MB,ect),no VE pumps(rotary)will tolerate it.
So....if you have the engine that can take it,room for the tank, heating element, solenoids to switch between the 2 fuels(remember,it will turn solid if the engine cools off, therefore you have to switch to #2 before you turn it off to flush ALL the "oil" out of the system)not to mention the network of fast food eatery's to get your oil from......you will be saving the cost of $1.30 a gallon, not so bad of on idea if you can get your fuel filters for free as you will be going thru a lot of them...........We don't, so I don't think we need to go this way, however the Toyota SUV hybrid that is coming out this summer sounds like something to think about. How about just getting a wagon and hitching up the horses! LOL

ROFL are you still alone? Is anybody coming in to do the shift with you? I hope so!
Well I need to go and enjoy myself by doing the dishwasher and laundry, life is so much fun!
Foals are out galloping around whilst Moms are laying down, guess the foals have worn them out! LOL

This guy has just planted his veggie garden ... all eight rows at once.

See, technology is wonderful.....

The other vehicle (as described but not shown) is known as a Spray Coupe, to control bugs.
