The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

This is totally unrelated, but I was unloading pictures from the camera yesterday and found this one. I got behind this monstrosity on my way home from work the other day. He was kinda hogging the road...

There was another one in front of it that I didn't get a picture of, but it was weird looking. It was real high up off the ground and had a real wide wheel base both front and back. There was a little car behind it that I swear could drive right through underneath it. I think either one of them would've been Cav's dream vehicle! ;o)

I sat up nights with a neighbor's minis - later in the year so not so cold. It was great, watching the stars - seeing the satelites go over, and being able to hear sounds from miles away. I also enjoyed walking out to the barn waiting for foals before I got my camera set up. Everything was always so peaceful :)

Well, I still can't get my lawnmower started so I've got the pony mowing the grass. With my temp fencing or the seed area and obstacles in the yard, I figure she's the least likely to get into trouble. Not sure why I think that.

Heh... that might be it ;~D

I'd say Bay would be good, but he won't graze if I put him in there alone... he'd pace and want to get back to his girls. The pony is at least working the lawn with gusto ;~D

I might try Cyn next.

Have you heard whether the Pope has really died or not. Someone told me he had, then someone else said not.

I think it's not yet. You'd think the media would be really careful in making any announcements. "First" is really not the most valuable achievement in this story.

Well, the wind kicked up here and made the pony frisky runnin' and bucking... I don't like my lawnmowers to chop up the ground so much so I put her back out. I think I'll try Cyn when the weather calms down again.

I'm getting ready to go by the vets to get the rhino shot for Belle, and talk to her about Rusty. we'l decide if she needs to see him.

Rusty is like Bay. I put him in the yard to eat and he wonders around getting into stuff he shouldn't. Rocky, I can barely get him out the gate far enough to shut it back because he starts eating. And I always think Rusty needs it so much more then Rock:)

Here's to the best outcome... I don't know what to hope for with whether she should see him. A diagnosis would be good so you can stop wondering what's going on... and perhaps have a clear plan.

She said it's definitly the stifle.

Her plan, first try exercise. 10-15 minutes every other day, working him over 3-4 cavaletti's. First week just at the walk, then 2nd week at the trot. I should see some improvement, if not, she wants to see him.

She said there are alot of things to do rather then clip the ligament. Blister it to make some scar tissue to tighten it up so the patella can't slip out.

Can 1 week of every other day at a walk for 10-15 minutes do anything? That almost seems pointless to me, but I'll give it a try.

Becky

It seems light, but cavalettis can be hard work. Adjust as you think you should to fit him.

It's extremely windy here too. Someone was saying a beer truck was blown over this morning and that they were giving the beer away:') I checked the news and couldn't find anything. Didn't make any difference as for as riding though since it was dark when I got home. I'm so glad time changes next week.

Good Morning All

I woke up to a wierd weather situation, sleet, wet snow etc. It's so wet it's really not sticking much but kind of puts a damper on getting out to trail ride.
