This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I'd pretty much like a colt. I'd then geld it. I think geldings make nicer riding horses then mare's. Altho Dot, Belle's first foal that my daughter has is about as nice and level headed as you could ask for.
The hope is always there with every foal, that it will be a bucksking:), but this time my expectations are not as high as they were while waiting on Dot. I just knew she would be a buckskin. This time I'm really expecting another Dot. AFter all same mare, same stud. But that's OK, the main thing is that it has the same mind/personality as Dot.

The videos will run through Quicktime player. If you don't have that, you can download it for free from that link I put at the top of the post.
After you get the player, right click the links and "save target as" and save them to your computer. Then you can double click them to play them. You can size them bigger by dragging the bottom corner of the player bigger.
I hope they don't seem like a lot of time and trouble on dial up. They aren't ~that~ neat if it's a huge hassle. ;~D
Good morning!
Morning. Sounds like a nice get a way. Worked till 2am last night. State coming in monday to inspect us so we can temp open. A lot of stuff to do. I'm going to try to take a long weekend off next week and get out of here myself if all goes well. Yall have a good horse day:')
I have a Dell computer and highly recommend them as a company.
I loved the video clips! Thanks! That Pony can sure move!
Heh... and she wasn't really at her best... she really does have a speed that Bay couldn't even begin to match, not that he's that fast. I think she has to buck and fart to activate that highest gear, and she wasn't in that much of a mood yesterday.
LOL!! That's why we call it "full-afterburner", she's jet propelled! Just don't let her around an open flame. ;o)
Exactly ;~D
I'm glad I played around with the video function. I did learn to keep them short in duration because I don't have the software to edit anything if it goes too long. And next time I'll be more careful about being steady. I was walking and flapping the flag with my other hand while trying to capture the video, and any little movement shows.
Do you think Cyn is unusual to not be even remotely spooked by flapping things? What doesn't show up in the video is that the shopping bag is full of empty cans and is loud. She seems unspookable, which is the trait about her that really sold me to her as ecurbh's first horse. I am so used to Bay who thinks I am trying to kill him if I approach him with a plastic bag.
Cyn was probably well handled and exposed to a lot of different things when she was a foal. Bob(TheBiter) is alot like that. Sometimes, you just can't get him out of your face. She's probably reading your body language too and know's that you're just goofing with her and aren't really trying to "get" her. I'm sure that if you got after her for real, with real intent to hit her, she'd get moving in a hurry. It's cool that she's that perceptive to minute changes in your body language, but it can get aggravating because you've got to REALLY mean something when you tell her to do it, you can't get away with telling her to "do as I say, not as I do". ;o)
You're right. She is 'bomb-proof to a fault' in that you can't get her out of your way either. All I have to do is cluck at Bay and he moves out of the way. She'll stand there with me slapping her and not 'move it'.
She was bottle fed, as her mother had to be put down after the birth, so she is perhaps "too imprinted" ;~D
A mac man eh? ;~D
Oh yeah, I forgot about her being a bottle baby. Those are usually really spoiled coz they don't seem to realize that people aren't just like horses. You've really got to "turn up the volume" with them to get them to react. You'll have to put on your "nasty tempered boss mare" act with her. I know this sounds weird, but with Bob, I have to bring up this mental image of me getting really big and mean, like a grizzly bear. I don't know how it works, but maybe by me calling up that mental image, I'm unconsciously changing my body language accordingly. Whatever it it, it works. LOL!
Good tip! We've been working with her on ground manners. She's pushy and if you aren't careful she'll walk right over the top of you.
Since 1989. I'm forced to use Wintel machines at work, but refuse to use them at home.
:) Good morning. Well the weather should be nice then. She's due the about the 7-8th of May? Isn't foaling fun?
When Dot was born I slept in the barn 10 nights. You know it was actually rather peaceful, especially the nights I could drag the cot out into the run an look up at the stars all night:)
