Okie. Maybe Sarah Lee. I'm looking in state line and it's for traveling. I was just wondering if it works or junk. He's so, so with riding now and I hate to lose ground on a long ride. He hates it so bad. Sarah Lee just stands there looking like she's on her way to the slaugher house.
I was looking for what you give Pony but I don't see it.
Thanks. I saw that one but I thought you called it something else.
The paste is convenient but much more expensive... not too bad if you are only doing it once. The tub of powder lasts a long time.
I wouldn't do tryptophan for trailering... You don't want him sleepy, you just want him relaxed. It's hard enough standing up without hands in a moving trailer, without being drunk ;~D
What's his issue? What does he do in the trailer?
He doesn't do anything. He won't eat, drink or pee. He just stands there wide eyed and comes out all scared. I have him where he will ride but he's like me flying. That door opens and I want out. Eddie and I thought drugging him might make traveling to his new home easier but as you say we want him to be able to keep his balance.
It doesn't surprise me that he won't pee in the trailer, many horses won't if they can possibly avoid it. I wouldn't particularly worry that he won't eat. He won't starve on the trip. If you need to water him during the trip, bring water along with you that is from the stable he's used to. Some horses won't drink strange water. He'll get used to new water in time, but I used to have to bring water with me to shows. Still... if you try to water him in a strange environment when he's all wired, he may just not be interested.
How long is the drive?
Many horses are very alert and excited getting to go somewhere and in arriving at a new place. Bay is more travelled than most horses, and his feet barely touch the ground when he gets out in a new place and is looking around. As long as he isn't rocking and rolling in the trailer, or interfering with SL, I would think he's fine. But Quietex wouldn't hurt. I do think it helps the pony when I leave her alone... it doesn't make her drowsy or drunk, it just makes her not stress out.
Did you ever figure out how to fit them in the trailer with the divider between them? Or will they be standing next to each other? Having them in separate spaces so he can't walk on SL's legs if he gets agitated would be best. Put him in the front and turn him around so he can see her but can't interfere with her. That's what I would do.
Good morning
Becky
Get some Acepromezine from your vet before you go. It's cheap, reliable and it works. 2 cc's of that will just take the edge off and the horses will have a nice quiet ride.
Duchess, what a wonderful person you are to post such beautiful pictures. Here I am sitting in my study, depressed because we have no water as the well is still not working and the man hasnt turned up. BUT looking at your pictures, it feels like I have taken a mini vacation!
Thankyou! : D
Oh my goodness what a terrible thing to happen. I am sorry your Mom was there, it must have shaken her up bad. the poor children.......and families.
It's about a 5 -6 hour trip but pulling a trailer it could end up 7-8 depending on construction and weather. I'm really not too concerned about him not eating or drinking. He's done it before. You just asked what he does. I was just thinking why put him thru getting himself all worked up if I could give him something to relax. It's a stresser for him. You can tell. He does what I ask, which is getting in. I can't ask for more than that I guess. He probabably will never like riding in a trailer.
That's a good point about the bar. I guess we ought to put it back in. We have only gone short distances and he does want to hug up against "momma" Maybe that's why Sarah Lee gives me the big sad eye looks:')
No well water + our automatic waterers went dry, so we put the mares back in with the colts after a 3 week seperation. The colts have a huge old bath tub in their field with a float in it to keep it full, so even though it's not filling, their is plenty of water to go around. Lightning has the same.
I had to haul water to Smokey, the chickens and the dogs. We have another well at the other end of our land, but it's a long way to spill the water! : )
The mares and colts are doing great together, the mares are not producing milk no more, but the colts were pleased to see them and they "chatted" for a while! : )
What a pain. Do you have someone coming out today? We used to be on a well and of all things fire ants would get on the contacts and short the pump out.
I would want to give him something too, just to take the edge of the stress of being hauled to the new place. I am so excited for you...!
When we move, it is going to be a much longer trip than 6 hours. I am not sure what we will do. We dont have our own trailer at the moment, and the next trailer we will buy will probably be a cattle one. Daconjim said that he thought there were specialist firms that haul horses for you, when it is a long journey. That might be the way we go. We will probably just have Sugar and Smokey to move.
We have seen a property that is surrounded on 3 sides by state forest land, there are trails 3 miles away that can be got to easily from the farm.
I tried to post a link to it, but no luck!
The well man is supposed to be here now......!
Well, that is a very long trip. I do hope it goes smoothly. It will be tiring for everyone.
Ack. Water going out is a lot of work... I sure hope it's an easy fix.
Deaconjim has already replaced the pressure switch and the controller so I guess that leaves the pump that may be the problem. They have just turned up so i'll let u know.
Well they have gone. Were here 3 mins most! Said it's the red wire going down into the well to the pump that is broke. It has happened b4 do maybe they will do a good job in replacing it correctly this time! GRrrr. the well is only 3 years old and I have spent a fortune on it!
They dint have ANYTHING with them so will come back later this afternoon. Grrrr. Do I sound Pi*&ed or what?!!
Someone please post some beautiful scenery photos to calm me down!
