*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well my BIL is one of the few people I would trust with my horses. Yeah, I wish, I could wake up and eat breakfast every morning watching them in the pasture but it will happen some day. Reality is that I am dead tired when I get off work and dragging. My husband is on beck and call 24/7 . We have many responsibilities and few pleasures right now and it will be better probably for us and the horses to have lazy weekends where we can get away and be with them until we can make it a full time project. Besides in Texas a long drive ,nothing:')I'm excited about it. Thoughts of big barns, round pens, arena, baby horses... :')

Yeah. The house will be last though. We will bring the 5th wheel down.

It's the first place that I mentioned about a year ago that we wanted to buy. There were some domestic issues though and we backed out.

Last year we purchased them from the feed store - I'm not sure where this year's came from, I'll ask Bob when he gets back (He's out with DIL putting 20miles on the horses).

It sounds like a good deal if you can trust your BIL to take care of them properly. If he's a good rider, the riding them will be good for them, as long as he's not planning a weekend of riding on the weekend you go down to ride.

You can contain strangles by using clorox to clean water troughts, feed bowls, etc. If they are over it, they shouldn't pass it on to another horse or contaminate their pasture - however, thirty days quarantine is NEVER a bad thing. Just fence them off from the othr horses, and don't use a community water tank, buckets, etc.

You don't need a barn right now, and hot wire is cheap. Just buy enough to run one strand at the top of the barbed wire, and a solar charger for right now.

We went to see the petraglyphs this morning and I took some pictures of the country and the rocks for you all. They are located about 20 miles from here as the crow flies :) - a fairly long drive by road.

Up at the top of the Virginia Range, getting ready to drop down onto Lousetown Road. There used to be a mining camp out there, called - you guessed it - Lousetown.

The mountains are all in bloom, flowers everywhere.

Wild horses

We do have trees :)

Site of the old town, Lousetown. Still some signs of civilization - old crepe myrtle trees.

The white to the right of that tree is part of the rib cage and backbone of a wild horse, more bones laying around along with part of the hide, but not enough to tell what happened.

Old building remains

Views of the mountain ranges - Virginia, Flowery and Chalk Mountains.

Petraglyphs

Those are gorgeous pictures. I love the mountain scenery.
Well, I have never seen my BIL riding so he will have to speak for himself on his skills. The men in my family tend to be the kind that are ready to teach halfway before you get thru explaining though (rolling eyes). I know he will watch them and won't mistreat them. He had some horses of his own but had to sell them to build a house.
Eddie still saying we will be ready by July. We'll see. He wants to get an automatic water and feed buckets set up this next weekend. I'll throw some hot wire in:')

Will it hurt to soak the trailer with clorox before I move them? We were just going to take it to the power washer but it should air out fast.

I meant "throw in the basket", not the water through:')

No - it won't hurt the trailer at all, douse it with clorox and then go to the power wash :)

I think you could be ready by July easily - hot wire goes up very fast, automatic waterers and new buckets - how about hay or it there pasture right now?

There is a lot of pasture grass right now. I can also get hay bales nearby.

Beautiful pictures, but what are petra....what ever it was you went to see:) I've never heard/seen that word.

We just got back from town, and I took my camera and took some pictures of some interesting things along the way, nothing as neat as yours tho. They are loading which will take awhile, I'll have to post them later.

Bob is doing 20 miles huh...good for him. Does he do endurance with your DIL?

Fascinating petroglyphs! So can you just walk along and see them on the rocks?

And as always, I love knowing there are wild horses and think it's neat that you can catch sight of them. They must be having a good year, with the green desert.

Here is a picture of the POA's I've talked about. The palomino looking one in the yearling, the other is the new one the lady got a few weeks ago that is broke to ride, but hadn't been rode in about 3 yrs. She is going to try to take on the ride I'm going on Mon.

THis is the old barn I've talked about that I don't know why it has never been blown over. Cowboyway, I thought you might be interested in seeing it. Someone told me recently that this barn has no nails in it, that it is put together with wooden pegs.

These silos, sit in front of the old barn, you can see it a little behind the trees. I think these are so cool and would love having them stand on my property

This barn is right to the north of the silos. I guess it was a new barn built to replace the old one. I think it's as neat as the old one. This is the farm I bought the Arab from I had years ago. This inside of this barn is really neat. This place belongs in the same family as that place I posted pictures of awhile back that I said if I had my choice of any place I take it. This property is across the road from the other property.

This is the end of our building in town. This end is rented out to a Tax Service Co. It is next door to the hamburger resturant we ate it tonight.

This is where we ate tonight:). This hamburger place was featured in Southern Living Magazine this past month. We were all pretty excited about that:)

Looking down our Main street, that is named Dawes:) Probably the only small American town whose main street is not named Main St..

Hope this is not too many pictures, but I just felt like taking some.

Becky

Ok I'm on Macks computer, and I can read the sign, and see the art on the rocks. I couldn't see that on the Web TV. That is great. Thanks for posting the pictures. That's cool seeing the wild horses too.
