This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I think it's cool to pics that show where everyone is! I'd love to poke around in that old barn!
I hope the lady does alright on the ride Monday... He's a cool looking POA. The palomino is also really pretty. Is this the place where you were concerned about the POAs? I remember that there was a story, but can't remember what the story was.
Yeah, this is the lady who bought the mare and a weanling, neither broke to do anything, and she had never rode. The barn that sold them to her said they would help her break them. I'm not sure what happened but she is not getting help from them. The mare was breed back, and now has another baby. Her and her baby are in a differnt pen that you can't see from the road. She is spotted like the one in thepicture but her spots are palomino colored. I've been told the baby is just like her.
I'd like to see the inside of that old barn too. The "new" barn, I've been told is 75 years old. I have no idea how old the old one is. I was also told that this place was once a hog farm.
Becky
So has she ridden this new one at all?
Bob is going to ride endurance with my DIL this year, at least he's going to try. I don't know if he's going to try any 50's though.
Well she has tried. I get my info from Beth. Beth says Stephanie, the owner, has trouble getting the horse to move. Beth got on it once and finally just really whipped him and now he goes good for her, but Stephanie is afraid to get tough. She just doesn't have enough experience to deal with what sounds like a smart stubbon horse.
The mare and the yearling are real brats according to Beth. They bite and kick. Beth said Stephanie won't hardly get in the pen with them. It's really a sad situation, but she refuses to sell and get something more suitable for her. She loves them. I just can't imagine why she thinks she could go on this ride, if everything Beth says is true. Beth does exaggerate sometimes:). It will be interesting.
Becky
Well I think that is really cool. Tell him good luck and that I'll be rooting for him, and keep us posted on his progress:)
Becky
oh dear...
In that area, it's like they are on all the rocks just about. I couldn't get very good pictures of them because my camera won't zoom in close enough.
The POA's are nice looking, anxious to hear how the ride goes.
I look at old building like that and right away imagine all sorts of treasures in them :) I love seeing the pictures so keep posting them.
Oh I will :) - his first one will be the 11th of June and DIL can't go to that one, she has to work. It's close by though and she will come over the night before and go with him to get the horse vetted in and sign up.
That's exactly what Bixby is a farm town. All the signs that welcome people to along the roads say "Bixby, the garden spot of OK"
We have several of the old fashioned vegtable/produce stores in town. They grow most of the stuff around town. It's pretty neat.
Becky
You live in an incredible place.
My parents are traveling right now, they are in route to Las Vegas and just went through Flagstaff. They were at an RV park spending the night when my mother called me then immediately hung up before I could answer. I called her back, no answer. She then called me back about 30 minutes later, really shaken up. When she was calling me, my dad started yelling at her to come outside. There was a crowd of people surrounding a pickup truck, the ambulance and police were on the way. What happened was, 2 pickup trucks loaded with kids in the back were horseplaying, throwing water balloons at each other with the trucks moving. A little girl fell out. The ambulance got there and got the girl inside. A few minutes later, the paramedic gets out and gives the crowd a thumbs down. The little girl was dead. She was in the 8th grade.
I love your town. Nothing like small town living.
Oh, June 11 we'll be at our clinic in TX, busy weekend.
How many miles will he go?
Becky
Oh Lord, how awful. People just don't stop to think sometimes. What a tragedy for everyone.
People take chances with their kids lives that never ceases to amaze me. My mom and dad were really shaken up. That girl must have had one heck of a head injury to be pronouced dead so quickly.
How sad.
It looks like a really neat place to live.
The 11th will be a 25mile ride. Boy :) our thread is going to be full of pictures that weekend won't it? I'll be looking forward to them.
