This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
She's banging for breakfast. she does it because it's noisy.
I've thought about just making the whole gate hot.
I'm puting in a small paddock at my barn and my husband made it out of limestone alone. Is this adequate or do I put something else down?
Adequate for what purpose? Footing? I don't know... I'm not familiar with limestone.
We'd sure love to see pics of your new setup down there!
That would stop her:).

You know... I could take a short wire on a wire gate handle and just hook it to the mesh on the gate, it'd be easy to undo that way, but I wonder if it might fry my charger.
They all went out to pasture, so I'm gonna go feed now. I try to not reward the behavior and feed when she's standing there.
Mack says you can't do that. It would burn your charger up.
You could try taking some of that white fencing you use that she knows is usually hot and put it across the bottom of the gate. She might not figure out it's not really hot. It' put the insulators on each side of the gate to hold the fencing out a ways from the gate. Keep her back. Might even put a couple of rows of it up the gate.
I have alot of "fake" hot wire around here. As long as my horses are exposed to the real stuff most of the time, they don't test the fake stuff.

5:30 is awful early to have to feed:). It's almost 8 here and I haven't feed yet. Maybe slowly start making feed time later.
Becky
5:30 is early.... 4:30 when she wanted it is even earlier.
She bangs for attention, and I think she gets it, when I run out there yelling with the hose.
I think I will try a hot wire or tape across the opening... She does this most every day, but if I get her good with the hose while she's in the stall, she stops for awhile. But that doesn't work when she's out. Heh.. If I block her from banging on the gate she'll probably take the next most noisy place to bang, the wall of the barn.
She makes me so mad, I wish I had one of those rubber bullet guns like riot cops use that could hit her at a distance ;~D
You guys are up early this morning.
I'm not sure how Mandy feels about the western saddle. We bought the one she picked out, brought it home, saddled up Winnie (it fit her fine) and she rode around in it, with a scowl on her face. You really can't compare that saddle with the custom english one she usually uses. The western one is a bit of a cheapie so it's not going to feel nearly as nice. I just wanted her to have it for trails.
It probably feels stiff to her. She'll get used to it. It's just a change.
I better go... we do have to be ready early today, we have tooth-cleaning appointments in town at 7.
I think they make a good team, too. I wish she would ride him more, he's sooooo darn fat!
Tell that co-worker to kiss your furry butt. (my answer to just about everything)
Good morning everyone.
I have a computer guy coming today to show me how to post pictures. So I should have something to contribute here before long.
My sister showed me once, and I have an album at Fotki, but can't get them from my scanner up to Fotki. Forgot how.
Beautiful paint, beautiful saddle!
You're right, it's stiff and it's a big change for her.
I am so mad. I was looking at mail and our lake lot appraisal went up 13000 dollar this year. Lot's of big, fancy houses going up. I'm going to appeal and send a copy to Perry for all the good it will do. Maybe I'll just rent it out to the most red necked I can find, or raise pigs are something . People started building the county starts salivating. It's best , I think if we just build plain outside and get fancy inside.
Thanks!
I saw you on another thread recently and I was gonna ask you about it but now I don't remember what it was.
Move up here by me.
