*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I bought this one today. It's a local saddler brand called SRS that I got at a tack shop in Pilot Point, Texas. I'm doing some work on it, getting the stirrups trained to stay where I want them. Gonna be a week or more before it's how I want it.

That's a pretty saddle... I didn't even think about it being a new saddle from this morning!

I probably should have bought a used saddle, I hate breaking them in. It's a mid priced saddle so it's gonna take alot of work to get it supple.

You can't see it in the picture but there's a broom handle through the stirrups. I have them bent around to where they are supposed to be and I'm spraying it with water and letting it dry to train them. I put a few coats of neatsfoot oil on it, too.

Cyn doesn't volunteer for guard duty because she's half mustang - it's in the genes. Either the herd stallion or the boss mare get that duty :) Besides, she knows she doesn't have to guard against you guys, let something really dangerous show up and it will be a different story.

As you know, I ride english on trail and I guess I feel secure,
When I'm out on the trail, I've wished that I had a western saddle when going down some really steep hills. On flat terrain however, english saddle are great, and I wouldn't ride in anything else. Hair, do you do a lot of hill work on trails, or is it mostly flat where you are?

On a different note, I think that I'm going to be recluse for a few days. I've had a horrible time at work lately, with a new co-worker, who is slowly making my life miserable, and by the time I get home I'm so exhausted that I just can't do anything. To top it all off, we've had lots of wind and rain and cold weather since SUNDAY. I don't know if you've been keeping up with the weather across the country, but New England is getting hit pretty hard, and it's terribly cold and wet, It hasn't stopped raining since this weekend. And I have no heat. We're all wearing our winter coats and jackets. You'd never know that it's the end of May. So I haven't disappeared.

If it doesn't warm up by the weekend, get a good book and spent the weekend in bed.

I'm sorry about your co-worker, sometimes there's not much you can do except consider the source. Well, murder is always an option, but it's illegal.

If you flip over an english saddle, the gullet is the space between the two pannels that runs from the pommel to the cantle. It looks like a gulley.

I'm sorry about the co-worker, and very very sorry about the weather.
Is this unusal for New England to be getting cold weather in May?

Hair, do you do a lot of hill work on trails, or is it mostly flat where you are?

We have a lot of hills... I don't necessarily miss a Western saddle going down hill... but I am glad to be english going up, or passing under low branches, because I can freely move forward.

Sorry about problems with a co-worker. I have been through nasty office cattiness and problems in my life, and they can zap the joy and energy right out of a person. I hope your difficulties have a good resolution... and please know you can come here to get away from it!

The pony started banging on the gate at 4:30. I REALLY want to stop her from doing that.

All I can do now is either ignore it, and I worry she'll get a foot through it and wreck them both... or run out yelling and try to spray her with the hose, which is what I just did. When she does it in her stall, I spray her with the hose, she's a captive target. When she's in the paddock like now, she runs out of range... and I think, laughs at me.

ROFLOL:)

Does she bang often? Could you let her have free choice at night to go in and out?

Being able to lay on their neck to get under a low branch is a very good thing!

Good morning!
