The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

"how old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?"

Tonight, 110. I'm sorry, poor Cindy. Poor you also. I keep reminding myself it was fun getting to this age :)

You have a beautiful home and pool and barn :) I love the pictures, especially the puppies at and in the pool.

And this is the horse with the stifle problem. Looks like it's a bit better :)

That's what I'm thinking. He still every once in awhile, looks off on his back leg. Not sure exactly what he is doing, but sometimes it looks like he takes a funny step. I rode him the other day. We did some good hill climbing and he didn't have any lock ups at all. Hopefully it's getting better.

Hey, all Texans own oil wells. Actually, my husband was president of a large mechanical contracting corporation and they sold out to an even bigger company. We had alot of stock and my husband was able to retire. He started from the ground up, working on air conditioners. You know, his ambition was one of the main things that attracted me to him but on this long climb to get where we are, it was a major annoyance. He worked 7 days a week, 16-17 hour days. He didn't even know our kids and I did all the work at home. It was all worth it, of course, but it was extremely difficult.

"We thought about an inground this year but because of taxes and the grandbabies here we backed off"

Above ground is better. When you get tired of it, get rid of it. We had one with a deck on one end, it's a great way to have a pool without the commitment of concrete.

Thanks. I kind of went nuts with the pics yesterday. I love looking at everyone's pictures, you need to post some more. The scenery at your place is incredible.

Oh man, I never can get good pics of the horses when they're playing. Seems like as soon as I run in and get the camera, the fun is over.

Your home looks more secluded than mine, I like that. I'm going to try to get some more pics of that big ol' arena going in, it really looks massive from my barn.

The only reason I get pictures of Harley and Rusty acting like that is they do it every time I first put them in there together, so i have the camera ready:)

We used to live in a mobile home too. We had an above the ground pool. We built a deck all around it and it was like stepping out on to a patio to an in ground one:')

Hey, thanks. I finally got a chance to read it. I'm taking Harley and Dot to the vet today for shots and coggins, I'll ask Terry about this stuff. I like that you only have to give it during times of increased stress. From what I've learned about horses and ulcers, trailering is actually the hardest thing on them. It might be worth having the stuff around and give it then.

Mornin' Becky!

I took the day off, so I'm just enjoying my kids.

Well, at least enjoying Alyson (the 3 year old) for now. My Becky (who is 7) is off to school until 2pm. :-D

That is the way it is with me too. I'm really getting tired of my digital camera. It has a delayed flash and by the time it snaps what they were doing is over with. Maybe I'll get the book out this weekend. I have no idea what all those options on it are for and I might be able to speed it up. I also don't get a good zoom.

It is raining here:(

Jenny, my daughter, just dropped off Dot, her horse. I'm taking her and my horse to the vet today for yearly shots and coggins test. I'm going to get pictures of Dot and Belle together to post. They are mother daughter. Apart from each other you'd think they are twins, but standing together you can see differences. Dot is actually shaped more like Rocky, her dad, very square, but taller.

I'm hoping it doesn't rain all day. I'd like to ride a bit, since I didn't yesterday.

Good - I look forward to seeing them!

And I hope it doesn't rain. It has stopped here, for the moment, and it's looking like clearing.

You're taking them to the vet?

For some reason I figured that equine veterinarians made house calls.

Well, yeah, they do for $30 just to walk on the place. My vet is fairly close to home (I'd haul anyway to save the farm call charge.), I've never understood the people who have trucks and trailers, who pay that charge just to keep from hauling....seems a waste of money to me.
