The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

5 stalls and a tack room. It's a good size for me, I never have over 5 horses at a time.

Ooooo, I like your house, especially the little back porch. I'd rather have a porch as anything. They're absolutely manditory in my book! :o)

We have a service that takes care of the pool cleaning so that part isn't a big deal. The liability is what freaks me out. That pool gate stays locked at all times but all it takes is one time of someone forgetting to lock it. My 5 year old can't swim, yet. It's a huge worry.

I like your wrought iron fence. Very nice! So much better looking than chain link.

I would love a wrap around porch! Wouldn't that be great?

Yeah, they can't climb it, either.

Well I think it's physical proof that good things come to those who wait! :-D

I'm trying to be patient....really I am.

That IS the scary part. You hear of so many little kids found floating in the pool who were out of sight for just a FEW minutes. That would be so horrible. I just can't even begin to imagine.

My nephew just bought a house that had a pool. The people had just built it, then decided to move. He didn't really want the pool, but wanted the house, so what are ya gonna do? It didn't even have a fence yet. He's got a 2yr old that's really a pistol and another one one the way. They're gonna have to watch him like a hawk!

LOL!! You underestimate the tenacity of a kid my dear. ;o) I think my nephew's kid can climb anything, and if he can't, he'll pull something over there that he can climb and go over that way. It's amazing!

I'd get that sucker fenced in a hurry. My 5 year old is all over the place so I don't even let her go to friends houses that have an unsecured pool.

Best way would be to put electric wire around it! Treat 'em like a horse!

Speaking of kids, gotta go pick up a few right now!

I bet I'm alot older than you. We got married in 1983 and we've only been in this house for 4 years. It took a very long time. Lots of fights and tears.

Oh wow! Beautiful place. Now where is the picture of the oil wells you own. JK....very very nice.

I hear you, about taking a long time to get what you want. A lot of hard work and sacrifices in the beginning.

My grandmother's neighbors put in an electric fence as soon as her grandchildren (aka my brother and I) were old enough to want to go over and see their goats. I wish that I was joking, but it's true. They were mean people.

No she didn't get hit. She is a lab (about 14 y/o) and our Dalmation broke her hip several years ago. She was left with arthritis. She can't leap and fly like she use to and has some muscle wasting but most of the time she's happy and funtionable. She limps when the weather bad but hey so do I:') Occ, maybe twice a year her back legs give out. It isn't painful to touch but she has to sleep with the lower back on her side but laying on her front trunk and can't put her head down. I log rolled her hips and made her a pillow to prop her head and put hot packs on and she finally went to sleep. The medicine has kicked in and she's better now. As for me, my shoulder aching. This month is Texas older citizen month. I saw a saying that "how old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?" and I was thinking around 32. Must have been a good year. Anyway, I forget or ignore my limitations sometimes too and should not have picked a 75 pound dog up under her front legs and carried her to the bedroom.

You have a lovely place. We thought about an inground this year but because of taxes and the grandbabies here we backed off.
