The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It was nice. Lots of food and we collected a lot of teddy bears. There was a woman singing that I really liked. I bought one of her tapes. It's Christian music with a country sound. On the cover is her on a horse and one of the songs is that you never really ride alone. I was the photographer but nothing really horse related to post here.
Stay tuned though. Sarah, my granddaughter had a fit because she couldn't go. Being a good Granny, I made a "doggie bag" and we are having our own private one today and there will definately be pictures. It's going to be a "Texas Tea Party":')

Good morning!

We had a middle of the night thunderstorm... Gidget woke us up at 1 am, freaking out about the thunder. There was no rain yet then. Just Thunder, and we could see flashes. Thunderstorms are unusual here, so we got up to watch...

We let the horses in just as a pretty good shower hit, which they appreciated. The actual thunderstorm never really went overhead, we saw only a few more flashes and steady rain. It's been pouring ever since, not storming, just our very normal, very wet rain :~D

I wondered about that T thing on the trailer too, I guess that's for mounting the license plate on. Not sure why they stuck it up in the air like that.

The opportunity to meet that neighbor sounds fabulous! And it sounds like a fun ride.

I'm so frustrated. I figure I'm locked in until Dec /Jan. I really wanted to go to that trail ride in Whitney I talked to you about. I had almost had my sister talked in to riding with me. I get my courage, I start getting on contact lists and looks what happens? We were even planning to have our first saddle club get together this month. I just can't risk taking these horses out and exposing others as long as they are "carriers" though. I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself and even thinking well, I could buy another horse and put it on my BILs property. Now that was real dumb:') I guess , I'll just stay home at the ranch and keep practicing. It's not like I don't need it. I even thought about just selling them but no one going to buy sickly horses, and besides they belong to me and I really do like my lawn ornaments! I should never have named them:')

That would be an odd place for a license plate. The one on my trailer was right under one of the tail lights, but one arm of it stuck out past the edge of the trailer, and made for a great place for a horse to get a nastly cut on it's leg, so I cut it off.
I've never tagged my trailer, but have seen some that are. What's the law on that? Is is different in different states?

Becky

I think I'll take it off... or turn it around so it's flush. I don't know why they did that.

I'm sure it's variable by state law. Here, it's about $30 for tabs.

I can sure understand why you are discouraged, having them get sick right at the start of the season like this.

Good day all.

Hope y'all forgive me for my habit of posting and running, a lot of the time. But sometimes I only have a few minutes to get on the thread and then there are things to do, so I end up coming back hours or a day later.

Great-looking trailer!!

Well, that's the next question!

I did tell Dad yesterday... told him the trailer we were intending to get was gone and they weren't ordering more. That there was only ONE of these other trailers there, and that ordering was gonna take 8 weeks. We couldn't wait. Not wait and end up ordering a trailer that might get here in August.

He may come down this week to have the trailer brake unit and the wiring plug installed in it... Then we talked about a trade off. - every other week, something like that. He doesn't want to be without it for getting stuff at Home Depot or going to the dump... and he doesn't like to drive mine.

I am so hot. I must have sweated 5 pds off. I went out to set the back yard up for Sarah's Tea Party and it was a mess. I've been push mower mowing. About 3/4 thru. I came in to cool off.

What a nice granny to do a special tea party! The kids love it when I do an adventure picnic for them....I get a sandwich box, fill it up, get some chips and drinks and wrap it all up in a picnic blanket. Off on their adventure they go, they nearly always end up at the slide fort but do lots of detours on the way, like find "hidden reasure' etc. Sometimes I do a riddle game, where one piece of paper leads them to another riddle and hiding spot and so on.......treats at the end. : ) Lots of fun and inexpensive..

Treasure hunts. That's a neat idea. I think I'll do that sometime for Joshua. I never had any girls so all this is new to me. "Tea Party" is all she has talked about today. She was even telling everyone at church.
I had all 3 of them by myself. I have 11 rules as of now. It is a living document and grows as needed:').
1. No running in the parking lot. No ifs, no buts. One runs and no ice cream.
Then I have 10 minor rules. They can break 3 and still get ice cream
1. No talking during singing.
2. No walking on Gods furniture.
3. No crawling under the pews.
4. No yelling
5. No talking during prayer
6. Everyone stands when Granny stands
7. No fighting
8. No eating during church
9. Go before. No potty breaks during church
10 No running or pushing past people.

My little darlings broke 7 out of 11 today
I need to add two more
1. leave the song books alone
2. Don't be wimpy but don't hurt peoples hands shaking:')

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for that rule! That is one that everyone needs, especially at my church.

I don't understand it. When the parents go it's up and down. They never break this rule for me though.
