*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, this was one time I was happy to made a liar:) He did great. Lead right up to the trailer stood while Charlie tied him, then we walked away, he ate, then stood there fine. All together he was there about an hour. When I went to untie him he was fine, did not seem at all nervous. I could tell from the ground he had pawed a little, but other then that...no problems.

We will do it again tomorrow.

I sat out there under a tree and read for awhile to keep an eye on him.

Very good. :~D

Even with practice he'll likely be a little more amped up and edgy when tied in a new place with strange activity all around him, but he'll hopefully be better. I know Bay gets excited in a new place, seems like his feet barely touch the ground, and he's very experienced.

Oh, I realize the problem is not solved. But this is the first time he has not pulled back, so we've at least made a step in the right direction:)

I'm riding tonight with the neighbor with the paint that was so bad that one time, and my DIL.

I also got a call from that lady that has been calling me for a year saying she wanted to ride with me:). Seems her and some of her friends get together the 2nd Wed of every month and go trail riding somewhere, they like to try new places. I think I might go next Wed.

Oh that's wonderful. Just watch him whenever you tie him for awhile. Being around other trailers/horses/vehicles might bring back whatever his nightmares are, so if possible when he gets comfortable with this, try making things a little more crowded.

I hope it's a good group of people for the trail ride. I'd like to get together with a group too, when we can. :~D

That's kind of one of the reasons I'm thinking of going with that group next week. Would be a good test.

Thanks for remembering. I think it's going well - slowly - but that's OK. She has taught him to stand tied. She (and our wonderful barefoot trimmer - farrier) have him where they can trim and clean his feet with (mostly) good behavior. She's had a bridle on him - and a pad and saddle.

We are trying to find an affordable round pen to work with him this summer. Budget is tight now and so far - we haven't found anything.... The farrier even offered to loan her one but it will be several months before he get his back. I think she will start making more progress when she's finished with classes and extra-things.... She even stated she didn't want to go to camp this summer - just stay home and work with "Dash" every day. :)

It is a good project for her - it is stretching her a bit - but (so far) she has risen to the challenges.

Here's something I've thought about here if someone were set up to seriously work our pony. I don't want to put in anything too expensive that's permanent, because we are just renting, and I can't afford nice panels either.

Wood round posts in a circle, and this construction netting stuff:

That stuff is really strong, yet easy to put up. It's only about 3 feet tall, but you could put it two-rows high.

They even make it in black, which would be more attractive if 'better farms and gardens' might come to photograph the place.

What I like about it is it's strong and not very expensive, very visible, and yet it would be forgiving, if, heaven forbid, someone gets catapulted into it. ('cept for the posts ;~D)

Hi Becky. Last weekend Emma purchased a new digital camera.
It's a Vivitar Vivicam 3710 and it was $85 including tax.
It included inbuilt memory that gave her some pics, but we purchased a card from Target for $15 that gives her 175 photos on standard resolution! We are very impressed with it, it does movies too!
Compared to mine,it's about 1/4 of the weight and size.
Emma says hi to everyone.
