This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Spline bearings went out. It's a wonder that it didn't lock up driving down the road. When it finally broke, it made so much noise that I had to pull over on the shoulder and get a tow. Lucky I was near home. But it's fixed now. If the horse was only as easy. Just take one hoof off and put a new one on.
I haven't read all the posts yet so someone may have already posted this. I think the rodeo riders equipment is called Pro Choice, I'm not sure, but a google search of rodeo safety equipment should bring it up. They have vests.
Good morning ;)
Good morning, no baby yet although this time, every day longer we go is good :)
Oh I'm sorry. Sounds like she's okay to breed back though. March here is too early (like Bob listens to me about that!) but we hang heat lamps when we have a baby due then.
Boy, that's a bummer. I'll keep my fingers crossed it is a stone bruise.
How long did it take from the the time she came up lame?
As he brushed and saddled her, I kept a eye on her reactions. She never flinched, shied, or acted in the least bit scared of him. He rode her at walk, trot and canter. It was so funny as this mare hardly makes horse size, and he is over 6 foot tall..lol She did well, but was way too fast at a canter. He had just started her on that. No gaping mouth with a snaffle and backed nicely too. We decided to keep her there for two more weeks. The weather has been so bad here, with lots of rain that she might as well get worked there.
More time is always good if you want to to come home pretty solid. Sometimes the first 30 days they do whatever you ask, emotionally coming to grips with this work stuff. It's sometimes later when they have more confidence that they begin to question whether they really have to behave ;~D
Too bad about your mare. What a disappointment. Did the gravel/stone work out of the coronet band?
LOL...right. Now, we will have to learn how to put that pretty little Arabian head set on her.
Did you get your barn built?
She'll find her pretty carriage pizazz as soon as you compete her. Arabs show off for each other at shows, not the judges ;~D
30 days is really a very short time at a trainer, and if you can afford to have her there longer and she seems comfortable, leave her for awhile.
I don't know why he doesn't use breeding hobbles, but he doesn't, he says he doesn't even own any, and I am in no position to argue. I love his stud.
We'll see, last try today at five o'clock!
My farrier showed me the mark of a stone bruise, it's a thin red line right on one side of the white line of the hoof wall. He sees them all the time. This is working ranch country and horses work very hard.
Does anybody know anything about Old Mac's Multi-purpose boots? Speaking of Easy boots. I am thinking of trying them for the occasional times I ride the gray mare. Her feet are good and I leave her barefoot.
I have had trouble with Easy Boots not staying on.
How did you terar up the rear end in your Jeep? Sorry to hear it.
No because I was told the gelding had Rhino and she had been vacinated for it:'( My vet said the tucoprim fine and he'll get me some more. He said as soon as he can get away he's going out there this evening and won't charge me for it. I may wind up with two bottles though. The house vet supposed to send me more out too. If so I'll just put it in my growing first aide kit which has come in really handy. (I have a tool box in the trunk)
Good to hear Misty doing ok.
