The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good morning all. Today is the big day!!

I am taking my grade mare (probably half-Arab) to the stallion. High hopes!

He's a double grandson of Colonel Freckles. They say he throws a gentle colt. He himself is a gentle and tractable stallion.

My mnare seems to be 'in the mood'. A girlfriend suggested I pout lipstick and a little nightie on her.

Oh my God, mommadoo, I just saw your post. (Evidently "all" doesnt actually send this post out to all of us.) I am so sad for you and so upset you are blaming yourself. This is so wrong. I'm convinced Twister went off to start her journey on the Rainbow bridge. You didnt prolong her agony, you gave her great love in the last, natural stages of her life. The only pain now is yours. I hope our prayers and offers of support can help ease your journey through the mourning process. By blaming yourself you are doing yourself a terrible injustice. You were not in control here. Twister's time had come, you are to be admired for all that you did. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to ease your pain.

OOOOOO:)

Are you going to stay and watch, and bring her home, or is she staying there for a while.

Be sure to take pictures and post them for us:)

Actually pictures do not do the event justice. It is one of the most astounding things I have ever seen. The few people we have had here when we breed our stud, just stand with the mouths hanging open in absolute silence.

Have to see it live to appreciate it:)

WE've all seen pictures. I had seen them before we got Rocky. But when you see it live....it's like seeing the Rockie mountians, and seeing pictures of the Rockie mountians. Not the same thing at all:)

Heck, and Rocky's a little guy, I would really NOT want to see some huge horses getting it on.

You were having fun with me right? lol. The only response I got from touching her around her butt hole was a lifted foot.

LOL!! No, I wasn't goofing with you. Maybe my horses are weird, but it works for me, and if you actually scratch ON their butthole, they'll raise their tail almost straight up. Maybe mine just have itchy butts, I don't know. I tried anyways.

I agree... and my stallion was a little Egyptian Arab, not very tall either.

Well, even though Becky and I are sitting here talking about horse sex, I think yours was an even more awkward conversation to walk in on. ;~D

We think we have figured out why those pictures would not load last night. The host site I used came with my Sony camera. The camera I used for those pictures was a Kodak. My SIL, did get some loaded before he burned them on a disc for me, but he said it took forever for them to load. I just may not have waited long enough last night.

What is that site you use, I know it's snapfish something. I guess we are going to keep that new Kodak we bought, and just have Travis burn them on a CD till we get a new computer. We are suppose to get one from my dad. HE GOT A new one because this one had some problems he did not know how to fix. Mack thinks it might just be viruses. WE JUST NEED TO GO GET IT. (dam sticky cap key:)

http://www.snapfish.com/

I think they have a nice easy interface. Go ahead and say yes to the upload tool, too. It makes it even easier to upload lots of pics at a time.

You have to buy something occasionally to keep the snapfish account, but even a couple dollars worth of prints is enough... and they won't bug you for awhile anyway.

It's pourin' out here... was so nice yesterday, when we fed dinner it was 70 degrees, so we decided to leave the horses outside. At 3 am when I woke up it was pouring and the horses, Cyn in particular, looked so pathetic I went out and let them in. Bay lets the pony in the lean to with him, but Cyn always seems to be trapped outside.

So I fed their breakfast inside, but they're gonna have to go out soon. It's really warm out, muggy, I'm surprised there's no thunder.

Thanks for your words of comfort!

I'm doing better today. I can tell that the prayer-ers are 'working'. Every time the images/sadness overwhelm me, I sense a Blanket of 'Peace' enveloping me, and I'm able to think about other 'stuff'. LOL...it's gonna take a couple/few days before my eyes STOP lookin' like a druggie's. (heh...no 'bags', more like steamer trunks)

For the sake of my heart, I've made the decision to REFUSE to dwell on things, and to take the space to heal. I know that it's going to be a while before I am a part of the daily feedings. (hubby and kids will have to take over) I always looked forward to Twister's whinny and run, at grain time, and it's gonna be too hard, right now, NOT to see that.

I did a bunch of 'research' on the net, aging horses by their teeth. From what I've seen/read, she was well over 30. (when she was 'down', I could look and poke around in her mouth. We couldn't do such a thorough exam when she was 'up and around')

She's in good company at The Rainbow Bridge.

It's not raining here as was forecast. But it is cool, and overcast. I think I will spend the day, straightening up the house. The rest of the week looks good. I can concentrate on Harley then.

Mack is getting us set up on snapfish now. I can post some pictures later. A few of them were pretty good. Also some pictures of Belle to show how unpregnate she looks. BTW, she is still showing no signs of bagging, and we're 12 days away from foaling.

AFter my last post, I went ahead and called the vet. I just want to see if she thinks the mare needs to be seen again. She is going to call back later today.
