This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Good for you:), looks like fun. I love your land, and trees.
My SIL did give me a cd with those pictures I took. I'm going to look at them now and will post any that are good.
It was cold and gray here today, and I woke up out of sorts all day. Haven't done much but lay around here feeling sorry for my self:)
Becky
Please don't beat yourself up. The future is never certain, especially with a rescue that looked pretty poorly.
I disagree that slaughter is anything but a horror, and for the horse to know peace and kindness is never wasted.
Very good! Look forward to the pictures!
Great photos Hair! Glad you had a good time.
We were supposed to go out yesterday evening for an early 4 year wedding anniversary meal, but I didnt feel great as I had a sore throat, thought We'd just stay in and watch a movie......well one of the cows in an adjacent field had different ideas and came onto our land. After chasing it all over the place ( I know you'd have loved photos! LOL) we managed to finally get it back where it belonged, but not before it broke through some electric fencing that we had switched off! It was raining and I felt like %^$#! What an evening!
Still, we got to watch a really good movie with Hugh Grant in it. It was Enlgish, so for once I didnt have to concentrate! LOL Can't remember the full title..Bridget something.... worth seeing on ppv! Very very good.
Enlgish? Enlgish? What am I saying?????
English !!!
As my 6 year old would be saying, I am having a "No No" Moment! LOL
Bridget Jones' Diary?
I guess Bay and Cyn are back to normal then. I was wondering the other day what the riders response should be if two horses wanted to "play" while riding.
Ever been to a "tea party"? What do you wear? What do you serve? We are having one at our church next Sat for a community teddy bear fund drive for the EMS/fire department.
yep! thats the one....thankyou!
It was very good, even deaconjim enjoyed it! LOL It gave him an insight into some of my British phrases and sayings! LOL
LOL Tea party!
Well in England you would be served cucumber sandwiches, no crusts, cut into tiny triangles. Or maybe scones (like biscuits here) with home made jam and cream......Tiny little "buns" with maybe icing and a cherry on the top, jam tarts, small individual apple pies adn of course a cup of hot tea! LOL Does this help? : D
The rider's response should be 'absolutely not', in the clearest language possible. Seriously, horse under saddle shouldn't be allowed to so much as sniff each other. If you meet other riders on trail, don't let them. Their first response after sniffing is often to strike, especially if they feel somewhat 'restricted' by close quarters or a rider. Having a horse take all the hide off another's shin with a front foot is enough to ruin your day.
I kept extra distance with my stallion, both because he might get intentions, and because those intentions would be resented by the other horses.
Yeah. Someone mentioned the cucumber sandwiches but it brought a lot of ewwws:') I was thinking about bringing one of those Sam packs of miniture desserts. Do you have a recipe for scones or can I buy them anywhere. By cream, do you mean whipped cream? What do I wear?:')
try this web site........

as for what you wear, church clothes would be suitable. (A pretty dress) Hats are not really in fashion for tea parties anymore, but fun if you want to make it an old fashioned party!
If you need some traditional recipies, let me know and I'll send you some!
Oh and what time do I have to be there???? : )
Well I knew the "absolutely not" part lol. So distance for prevention but if you were out riding and a horse "hell bent" what is the response?. Abandon saddle, sharp turns?
I do have a recipe for scones if you want it, but I'll need to find my English cook books : ) The miniture desserts sound good, also cheesecake is another good tea party food..
A loose horse? Or one under saddle? If a horse is too close to you, tell the rider behind you to back off, if they won't, let them pass you and go first.
Honestly, In all my years, I've never seen another horse do much more than get too close, which I have seen result in a kick from the horse who feels threatened.
Hey. It's Saturday the 14th. Hop on SW and come on down. They are talking hats ans stuff. Usually they are sweetly tolerable of my "church clothes" but since this is a community thing they expect me to play dress up lol. I was thinking maybe a summer flowing dress, a straw hat and my red boots:')
