The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL! It's funny how different people get weirded out by different things. Feet don't bother me at all, unless they've got that nasty toenail fungus crud, then it's just GROSS! When we were on our cruise, I saw WAY more nasty toenails than I EVER wanted to see. Do these people just not wash their feet, or WHAT!?

I'm not a fan of bare feet, but I'll rub feet that have socks on... provided they're dry.... sweaty feet are right out. :~\

I don't have pretty feet. They're kinda funny lookin'.

-------- Original Message -------- Subject: [1RainbowHorses] Cross Post - 3 wk old Paint Filly Stolen 4-17-05 Date: Tue, 19 Apr 2005 18:54:14 -0000 From: Penny Reply-To: 1RainbowHorses@yahoogroups.com To: 1RainbowHorses@yahoogroups.com

Please be on the look out for this Filly! Cross post this information to everyone you know that might help! One never knows where this baby could be by now!

Hello... Last night someone broke into my horse pens and stole my 3 week old paint filly. I just can not believe that someone would steal a baby, and not take the mare. We hope to find her but I just don't know. I am located in the Yakima valley of Washington. Just wanted to put the word out there, keep a close eye on them babies. We called the Sheriff and they have pictures of the filly, so maybe they will be of some help.

Wow, I sure hope they are caught quickly and the foal got adequate care. That's what I would fear, that the foal can become sick in a hurry away from momma. Momma will dry up without her babe there too.

As for why.... jeepers. Someone who lost a foal, or wanted a color foal and got a solid? Or someone stupid.

I cannot imagine the why of this. It is incredible to me that someone at all familiar with horses didn't take the mare also. That's the scary part, there doesn't seem to be any concern on the part of the theives for the baby's welfare.

Sarah Lee is sorrel. Her left side stays clean but she looks like a mud bucket on the right side.

How wicked. It was probably someone who didn't have a trailer. I sure hope you find her.

I was using Farriers secret. It hyped up Okie so I stopped. I later added corn oil to both their feed when it got hot and dry last summer. Okie did fine but Sarah Lee started acting squirrelly. Go figure:')

A baby would be easier to haul off then a mare. You could get a foal that young in a van.

Foals can make it with out their momma too. Just more work.

I'm back from riding Rusty. Once again he did great. I even encouraged him to walk out a little faster. The flies are horrible tho. Mack is picking me up some fly spray, I used the last yesterday. I'm going to wait for him to get back with it to go out on Rock.

I found my check book. Funny thing. It was out on the trails, but it was on my property. I've ridden past it now everyday. I rode past it on the way out and didn't see it. It wasn't till I was on the way back almost done that I just happen to look down and there it was. Whew.

I think the next time I ride him I'm going to go do some tougher hills.

From what I read, hills are the best way to build up their hindquarters.

Biotin... Good for skin and coat, but makes some horses hot.

I think you're right, and as I look at the way they couple up, going down is just as much work as going up, if you keep their weight back.

Glad you found it!

I've quit using regular horse fly spray. They never last more than a few hours, less if the horse is sweating profusely. I use Deep Woods Off. It's cheaper than fly spray and it works great and we both can use the same thing. It keeps ticks off too.
