I've just read that the Vatican has released a statement saying that Teri should live. They are right, but they are empowered to do much more and the actions have been missing.
From what I understand Michael (HINO) won't divorce Teri and give custody to her parents as he would then be unable to have a church wedding with with mistress Jodi.
Should not the Bishop declare that he has removed himself from the church by his actions and thus bar him from the sacrament of marriage within the church?
This is not posted to cause any Catholic bashing, and if it does I will request the mods pull it! Maybe there is something the RCC can do, and maybe we should be talking to his bishop about it.
His mistress is Catholic. If they tried to marry in the Church, they would consider him an adulterer.
Just a quick question and this isn't directed at anyone. How exactly is it going to effect Michael? I am really in the dark on this one, but I don't see them excommunicating him from the church as being a HUGE impact on him. If he were a god fearing man to begin with, this whole fiasco would be over already.
Joseph - It's okay, we know that our American shepherds leave a LOT to be desired. But rest assured, canon law is iron clad. There's no way they can violate it in such a public affair.
OK. Thanks!
Thank you for the citation!
Call Gov Jeb Bush and demand that he take Terri into protective custody RIGHT NOW in order to investigate outstanding charges of abuse, neglect and exploitation by his very own Dept. of Children and Families.
Jeb Bush's # 1-850-488-4441 - Terri can't wait 'til 3 p.m. today.
I believe his concubine is Catholic and she wants a Church wedding.
I don't think Michael Schiavo cares about re-marrying in the Catholic Church. He just wants Terri dead so he gets the money and so he can legally marry his new woman. Haven't been following as closely as some others but that's my understanding.
He is NOT Catholic - excomunicating would mean nothing to him - its not his church!
Catholics can and do marry non-Catholics, but they need to get a waiver to do so. My impression is it's pretty routine.
Even though I agree with Vatican's stance on THIS issue, I think they ought to stay out of our business most of the time.
I feel dangerously close to violating the prohibition I placed on this thread, but as you said, "It's okay, we know that our American shepherds leave a LOT to be disired."
I am not RC, but I always try to be fair in my comments about it (as probably several of the very RC posters can probably affirm). In fact I usually find myself defending it :)
What will stop a bishop from being "strong and compassionate" to the poor widower who has lost his PVS wife from remarrying in the church if the bishop chooses to disregard church law? To be honest I don't trust a lot of bishops to uphold the teachings of their faith.
"I believe his concubine is Catholic and she wants a Church wedding."
Sure - there are no conflicts of interest. OK America please continue - dig hole - insert head - beautiful life is snuffed out.
thank you!! If the gov gets enough contacts in whatever form, maybe he'll get up off his sorry behind and DO SOMETHING TO SAVE TERRI. Terri cannot wait 'til 3 p.m. today and WHY SHOULD SHE HAVE TO?!!!!!!!!
Posting the gov's phone # again:

You're right, they probably don't care. Like I mentioned on another thread, most Catholic weddings are all about the guest list. With about 13% mass attendance, a Church wedding is usually just a social obligation to the parents and vainglory of the betrothed who want candles and the "Ave Maria" sung by a soprano.
The same thing happens with the sacrament of Baptism. It's a social requirement where the parents are taking an oath before God that they will bring their children to the sacraments and raise them in the faith. Take a look at the 25-40 age group at mass, and you realize that most don't fulfill this promise.
Yes, priests have gotten very lax. Not all of them. But some. It's getting better, but you still people living together and then getting a Church wedding with full knowledge of the priest. Sometimes they'll order them to live separate for six months to a year before a Church wedding will be granted...
I don't know much, but I read he had a Lutheran service for Terri on Friday [Terri is Roman Catholic].
Michael would not be in good standing in the Roman Catholic Church because of his live-in mistress and trying to kill his wife -- if he were Roman Catholic.
