Sniff???
Oops, see what I did there, I clicked on the Reply button to my previous message, instead of one of yours, so the message I typed didn't get addressed to you specifically, like this one is, so you didn't get 'pinged' to the previous message, just this one. Now that your interest is piqued, you'll have to look at the message above this one, to see what I'm rambling on about....
It's a command that sends an echo request to a network host.
I know Pong was a digital game from the 1970's

Trust me, you really don't want to know. :-)
Ping is a basic Internet program that lets you verify that a particular IP address exists and can accept requests. The verb ping means the act of using the ping utility or command. Ping is used diagnostically to ensure that a host computer you are trying to reach is actually operating. If, for example, a user can't ping a host, then the user will be unable to use the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to send files to that host. Ping can also be used with a host that is operating to see how long it takes to get a response back. Using ping, you can learn the number form of the IP address from the symbolic domain name.
Loosely, ping means "to get the attention of" or "to check for the presence of" another party online. Ping operates by sending a packet to a designated address and waiting for a response. The computer acronym (for Packet Internet or Inter-Network Groper) was contrived to match the submariners' term for the sound of a returned sonar pulse.
Ping can also refer to the process of sending a message to all the members of a mailing list requesting an ACK (acknowledgement code). This is done before sending e-mail in order to confirm that all of the addresses are reachable
Ping used to hang out with us at FR and we'd give him stale bread crusts by the pond. Then he got that gig with Aflac and he won't return our calls anymore.

I think it's that plastic thing at the end of your shoelaces. |
Oooooh, I thought you said pong!
When you see a thread that you believe others will enjoy...you ping them to it by putting their SN's in the To field of the reply form.
When you see a thread that you enjoy and want to keep track of it...you BTTT (back to the top/bump to the top). When a message is replied to...that reply goes to the top of the latest message page. (makes it more visible for others to see)
A pig that ate an 'n'.
What's a "n00b"?
Geez, look it up, will ya? Or at least PM someone about it. It is VERY bad form to start your own vanity thread like this so early in your particular game.
Good thing you didn't ask about the moose.
Well I searched Google Images for a "ping" for you, and the first item was x-rated so I wont post it.
It's all you have left
after the government fiends
take away your pong!
