The bill provides that businesses may pay a 1.1% tax on the incomes of all workers it employs in lieu of the franchise tax. Market forces, of course, will act to pass that on to the worker. It is an income tax that the Republicans meant to disguise to garner the support of people looking for property tax relief at any cost.
That would actually be illegal under Article 2 of the HB3.
I don't disagree with you on property owners needing tax relief, but what kind of relief are those who rent going to see? I don't think anyone can honestly sat that landlords are going to pass their tax savings along to their tenants.
Me too, though I am not paying quite that much. :-)
This thread seems to be the honey to which anti-Republican insects are attracted. No mention of the tax cut.
*grin*
Thanks for the smile. You're right about this thread.
At 88 cents a pair, how can you go wrong? Of course once our congresscritters find out these inexepensive panties are made in China, all we'll hear about is how the undergarment industry being run out of the country and a need for more Americans to be employed in the panty making industry.
Well renters will have to fend for themselves.... Maybe they'll get a $20 a month increase the next year rather than a $25 a month increase. I don't know. I'm just tried of funding education via the protperty tax route only. Spread it around so that all get a chance to contribute to the education dollars.
Looks like I picked a bad day to sell my house then start smoking, eating junk food and starting a business in Texas.
I'm aware of that, but it would be nearly impossible to prove that a wage decrease, or rather the lack of a wage increase is directly attributable to the tax. That provision is unenforceable.
I heard the show this morning and was in hysterics. Someone from his show called Walmart and they said they'd sell the unmentionables for .88 cents a pair. Different folks were calling in with slogans to write on them and where to write them, eg "HB3 belongs here" on the inside rear. We need to come up with some of our own. This is a great FReeping opportunity!!

All your doing is giving up one tax for another. The cost of the tax will be passed on to you in the form of higher prices of goods and services, and potentially smaller raises by your employer.
"Just as long as they're clean!;)"
But my washed ones are still two toned.
Yellow in the front and brown in the back.:)
So?? Where is the loss? Where are the "increased taxes" in the big picture?
You can apply the same logic to any business tax, or business expense for that matter.
Please understand, I'm not for this tax, I just am not willing to shoot down this tax bill over it. If you really want something to get worked up over though, the Texas Senate is working on it's own version of the bill which will increase business tax revenue from the $3.5 bil provided in HB3 to $5.5bil according to the Houston Comical
That might be a better place for this energy.
I have a call in to Fred Brown. I called his office and was talking to the receptionist, in the conversation I told her I really would like to talk to him...she said he would call as soon as he gets out of a meeting. We shall see....
We elected these folks with the expectation of a conservative agenda. Conservatives cut spending and lower taxes overall, which apparently our Texas House Republicans are incapable of doing. Instead of cutting spending or looking for other ways of generating revenue, the State is attempting to saddle us with another form of taxation.
It's probably going to be a very long meeting;)
I am assuming you can see that this cannot happen each term less we finally end up with no taxes and no government. With ever increasing costs just holding their own is doing pretty good.
The left has started their propaganda campaign against all things conservative in preparation for the next election. They are sliming DeLay and trying to create deadlock in Congress. Post like yours accomplish the same goal, intended or not.
