Well, Fred Brown just gave me a call back. He explained one reason for the employment tax...Businesses will have the option of either going with this tax or the franchise tax. As an example, WalMart just franchised outside of Texas and in doing so cost Texas $28 million dollars a year. That is only one business...Dell, TI, and others have done the same thing. This is to get businesses who are doing business in Texas to pay their fair share.
I also ask him about it just going into the general fund...that is not true. It will be earmarked for education.
Our property taxes will be reduced 1/3 almost immediately.
So...that's what he said...I hope he's right.
