I guess that depends on the cat, mine would kill Me in My sleep for the squirt bottle trick. Better to put a lid on the fish tank.

As far as punishing your cat for hunting (which I assume is what you were referring to?), this should not be done. Your cat has an instinct to hunt and no amount of scolding or punishing will stop him from doing so. Plus, hunting for a housecat is often a way for the cat to provide food to someone (you) he sees as lacking in hunting skills. It is a gesture of friendship and kindness on the part of your cat and should not be scolded.
