I sincerely thank you both for the compliments.
Here is a snippet from one of my favorite books,
by a beloved teacher in the early 20thcentury
"Art when really understood is the province
of every human being.
"It is simply a question of doing things, anything,
well. It is not an outside, extra thing.
"When the artist is alive in any person, whatever
his kind of work may be, he becomes an inventive,
searching, daring, self-expressing creature. He becomes
interesting to other people. He disturbs, upsets, enlightens,
and he opens ways for a better understanding.
Where those who are not artists are trying to close the book,
he opens it, shows there are still more pages possible.
"The world would stagnate without him, and the
world would be beautiful with him; for he is
interesting to himself and he is interesting to others.
He does not have to be a painter or sculptor to be an
artist. He can work in any medium. He simply has to
find the gain in the work itself, not outside it.
"Museums of art will not make a country an art country.
But where there is the art spirit there will be precious
works to fill museums. Better still, there will be the
happiness that is in the making. Art tends towards
balance, order, judgment of relative values, the laws of
growth, the economy of living - very good things for
anyone to be interested in."
The Art Spirit by Robert Henri
And I love this passage as it relates to the American Idol contestants:
"The work of the art student is no light matter.
Few have the courage and stamina to see it through.
You have to make up your mind to be alone in many ways.
We like sympathy and we like to be in good company.
It is easier than going it alone. But alone one gets
acqainted with himself, grows up and on, not stopping
with the crowd. It costs to do this..
If you succeed somewhat you may have to pay for it
as well as enjoy it all your life."
I tried to find a pic of Snoopy the Vulture when it's a front view because the look is a lot more obvious from the front! Lt. Dan always looks like he's crawling with lice. And that tongue thing is so disgusting...
I do believe that Slingblade's time is up. Unless, like another poster said, there is a large number of adolescent boys that just want to screw the AI world, because "that would be so knarly" and because AI "is so bogus".
Actually, I remember Anthony having to wait for Slingblade to bid his farewells to Anwar. I remember this because I noticed Anthony started to walk right over to the benches, but remembered to turn back around and make it appear that he gave a darn that Anwar had to go...FINALLY ( :
I think Slingblade immediately shook his hand or hugged him or whatever.
But I bet someone reading this thread TIVOd the show and can check it out for us.
You chose well and got a 100 percent on all 3! :) I was glad to see Anwar go, I hope Scott is next. And finally....GO BO!
The dark side...were you referring to his eye makeup? :)
Anime is the hot thing now. Just a suggestion!
Please add me to your ping list.
Thanks
Well, Anwar is gone, but he got 20 immediate offers from Greenwich Village clubs to do Dionne, Donna, or Whitney to a packed house.
Scott cannot survive next week. The world does not need another Ruben, although Scott is svelte compared to Ruben.
I am very tired of Carrie. I have sat thru countless hours of auditions for community theaters in three different towns, and there is a Carrie in every audition group.. She isn't really all THAT. Her future is in Dinner Theater.
Vonzell has the voice, the look, the class. She will be one of the last three standing.
Anthony is sweet, but I've seen a dozen like him at Hersheypark and on cruise ships. (I know, I'm starting to sound like Simon).
The real contest is between Bo and Constantine. I like Bo's voice and personality. But America's teeny boppers love Constantine, and they are the ones with the cellphones with unlimited calling plans.
I predict Constantine to win.
He is so unbelievable creepy....I really hope not.
He creeps me out the way Jim Morrison used to. However, our young kids are into "creepy". Look at all the Goth kids at any mall in America.
Jim Morrison was never creepy.
OK, then. Satanic isn't creepy. Did you ever read his biography? He worshipped Satan and lived according to the Satanic Bible. He didn't fake it, like Ozzy Osbourne. He really practiced it.
On another note,
Here's a good thread on "AI Rogue Voters":
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1388325/posts
It's hard to figure out how much the kids have a say in their performance-night looks, and how much the behind-the-scenes people influence them. Carrie's appearance is far, far nicer when she looks as she did last night -- a contemporary young woman rather than a refugee from the Grand Ole Opera circa the mid-1960's.
Paula Abdul was on the Fox Good Day L.A. program this morning. She said that the judges all thought Carrie did a great job when they heard her live Wednesday, but that after reviewing the performances later on tape, they all regretted their comments. She said on review, Carrie was sharp in places and flat in others, and that her performance was not very good.
Frankly, I thought the judges praised Carrie too much the other night. Her rendition of MacArthur Park was terrible -- by far her worst performance of the competition. I can't figure it out. Last week she seemed to take a big step in the right direction. Now this week she's back to being -- like I said before -- a grown-up version of the tragic JonBenet Ramsey. Kind of a Miss America or Tammy Wynnette wannabe straight out of the 1960's.
Anyway, although just a few weeks ago, the judges all thought Carrie was a shoo-in to win it, now they are not so high on her. Paula gave me the impression they were prepared to be tougher on Carrie next week.
Paula also was sorry to see Anwar go. She said he was the most supportive person with the other candidates, and is a realy nice guy.
She talked about how she was injured in a plane crash years ago, when she was at the height of her career. Among the injuries she suffered were five compressed vertebrae in her neck, which left her in constant pain. She had multiple surgeries which did not help her. She said she has never been an addictive personality and denied that she has been "under the influence" on recent shows. (However, that's exactly how she looked this morning on Good Day L.A.) She said she has needed painkillers, but that they never really helped, so she stopped using them. She is now seeing a doctor who she says has helped her a great deal. She can dance and sing again, which she said after the crash that doctors told her she would never be able to do again.
I never knew Paula was in a plane crash. In fact, I never knew much about her at all until she became a judge on AI. I guess she's lucky to be alive after being in a plane crash, so if she does act a little, ummmm, "off," I'm inclined to be more understanding now.
You've got to see this, Paula answering questions about if she's sippin' anything in that cup...
The Associated Press
Updated: 3:42 p.m. ET April 21, 2005NEW YORK - Dont mistake Paula Abduls American Idol niceties or silliness for drug addiction. Despite a neuropathic disorder and 12 operations, Abdul says shes not addicted to pills of any kind.

If people only knew what Ive gone through with pain and pills, Abdul, 42, tells the May 2 issue of People magazine. Im dancing for joy at the fact that not even a year ago I was in so much pain I could barely get up.
Last November, the Idol judge was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, a chronic neurological disorder that causes severe pain.
I get a shot (of an anti-inflammatory drug) once a week, she said. I give it to myself.
Abdul remarked that her 25 years of pain have been long and arduous, beginning with a cheerleading accident at 17 that injured a disc in her neck. The pain was punctuated with a couple of car accidents in the 1980s, her battle with bulimia, an emergency plane landing in 1992, paralysis in 1998 and years of failed treatments including prescription drugs, acupuncture and live leech therapy.
By 1999, everywhere I went, Id look for something sharp to lean up against and jam a corner into my neck something to fight the pain, Abdul said.
The choreographer and former Laker girl is talking about her chronic pain after reading messages posted on the Fox talent shows Web site that attributed her odd antics to drug addiction.
From where I was to where I am is a miracle, she said. Its beyond a miracle.
Last month, Abdul was fined and sentenced to two years probation after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor count of hit-and-run driving. The charge stemmed from an accident last December in which her car clipped another vehicle on a San Fernando Valley freeway.
I read "No One Here Gets Out Alive" when I was in high school. I had his posters all over my room. To be fair, I also had Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Juda Priest, Metallica and Iron Maiden. I have no idea if Lt. Dan worships Satan....I was talking about looking creepy. It is his "come hither" looks & "making love to the camera" stare that makes my skin crawl.
Rogue Voters....now that is funny.
Me too. Everytme he is on camera I think " serial killer"
Everyone in my house thinks Constantine is creepy, including my teenage daughter. We are all Bo fans. we also like Vonzelle and Carrie.
You've been added. Welcome aboard :)
