I love Anthony's story also. But I feel for Scott the most.

I doubt Scott will win, but I like the idea of his dad being proven so very wrong about him.

"In your opinion, who did well, who did poorly?"

If you read through this thread you'll get a pretty good idea of how folks did. My biggest disagreement was with the Judge's over Anthony's performance. I guess that Nadia probably did the best of all. Vonzell chose a really tough song and did well, with every part except the singing, I thought (and hubby agreed, he actually does't have a tin ear like I do) but the Judge's liked it.

Many of them did seem a little stiff. The judge's were saying it is always hard when they move to a new level of competition, last night was the first on a new, more elaborate set, and with a bigger studio audience.

On here Michalah seems the most doomed. We'll know soon enough!

Me too. It broke my heart when he told how his Dad didn't believe in him. Has made me vote for him a few times. I really think he can sing...but you can tell he doesn't know how to act. He is my fourth place fav, Nadia comes next, then Bo and to win I think it will be Anwar.

I thought Anthony did well, also. I couldn't believe how the judges ripped him. I normally really hate that song, but he did a really nice rendition of it.

And I just can't figure out who is voting for Mikayla. I also can't figure out why the have been swooning for her up until tonight. I was genuinely surprised when she didn't get more, "You are back, girl!" from the judges. She is constantly doing this bad Streisand/Nanny impression and it's so grating.

And I just can't figure out who is voting for Mikayla.

She's a self-confident little girl...and little girls who wish they had her self-confidence are the ones voting for her in droves. She'll probably be around a while. Just have your earplugs ready when she comes on. ;)

Mikalah owns whatever audience niche people like Barbara Streisand and Bette Midler used to have -

LOL!! Throw in Cher and you have the gay trifecta!

That's nice to hear that Federov did well. I think he has a great voice and he's adorable.

I didn't like how Simon ripped him for doing a song (and doing it well) that was of Latin flavor.

Most of the men are very good. The only ones so far that I think are not in the same league are Constantine and Salvo.

The only women that I think are good enough to compete with the guys are Carrie and Nadia. Not that you asked. ;)

the first two months they keep saying "be yourself, stay true to yourself," then, the rest of the time they make them be something they're not by having these ridiculous theme nights

Or they tell them "It doesn't matter what song you pick, you just have to get out there and sing it" ... and then they criticize their song selection.

For all of the talk over the guys outshining the girls this year, it didn't happen this week. The top of my scorecard is female-heavy. Of course, so is the bottom...

  1. Nadia -- Good overall performance, with some minor technical issues. She doesn't have the best voice, but she does a great job with what she has
  2. Bo -- Again, a better performer than a vocalist. I thought the singing was a little weak, but an excellent stage performance nonetheless (though someone should mention that the mike does indeed come off the stand)
  3. Carrie -- Always looks great, nice voice, understands that the right move is to fit the style to herself, not the other way around
  4. Jessica -- There's something intangible I don't like about her, otherwise she would be higher on my rankings -- solid but not spectacular
  5. Anthony -- Better song choice, good vocals for the most part, still looks a little uncomfortable up there at times
  6. Constantine -- Better than the last two weeks, still pales when compared next to Bo, even though he has a slightly better vocal range
  7. Scott -- too technical tonight: sounded good, looked good, but no emotion in the vocals at all
  8. Anwar -- I expect much better from him, this was sluggish and "pitchy"... good emoting keeps this from being a total disaster
  9. Lindsey -- Nothing really wrong with the performance, but nothing right about it either; she looks good but is immediately forgettable
  10. Vonzell -- I really wanted to like this performance, but the beginning and end were a mess
  11. Nikko -- Needs to put less energy into the "performance" and more into the vocals; he has potential, but he's not helping himself much
  12. Mikayla -- Moving from Streisand to Cher this week? Either way, she just isn't up to the standard of this competition

the first two months they keep saying "be yourself, stay true to yourself," then, the rest of the time they make them be something they're not by having these ridiculous theme nights

The trick is to force the contestants out of their "safe" zones, push them a little harder, and see which ones are capable of taking whatever style they're given and turn the song into their own personal style. The contestants who change their style to match the theme, instead of the other way around, are missing the point and hurting themselves.

There IS something I like about Mikayla, though. She's just young and her voice needs some maturing. She's a hoot!

She's cute, she's funny, but between the Fran Dresher thing and just not really delivering on the vocals, I think she won't last long. Then again, how long did Jasmine make it last year while being perennially a half-tone off key and never finishing a phrase without running out of steam?

Good predictions. I think you are right about it being Anwar.

For the record, I think he is one of the best looking guys I have seen in a long time. Maybe I'm just getting old? Okay, Mel Gibson is better looking, but Anwar does have some very strong points!

I'll bet those little middle school girls in his school are just beside themselves!

As far as Scott goes, they have sure dressed him up pretty well and I really like his voice. I wonder if his creepy dad is going to show up?

I was watching for him last night.

Oh, one more thing, did you happen to see the blonde girl that was to the right of the judges. Right in the front row? I saw her tons of times, but always from the back or the side, but I swear that girl was Jenna Bush.

I have a DVR, and even on pause, it looks like her. I'm probably wrong, but even the way she moved looked like Jenna.

She looks mean. Really mean. Also during the semi finals she hardly clapped for anyone else. That set me off.

I know it's a competition, but she just doesn't seem to fit in with the others.

She looks like a back stabbing b**** to me.

Yes she does. Also has a less than chaste quality about her. Looks like the type girl you'd say for a fun time call ___________.

I'm glad you have it taped, let me know what you think.

I'll probably watch it again tonight with my daughter. She worked last night.

Look to Randy's right, in the very first row. Wearing a white shirt if I remember correctly. They showed that shot alot, but always from the back or quick side views.

You pinpointed the other thing that disturbs me about Jessica. I couldn't place that one, but you're right. She does look a bit trampish.
