Scott did disclose his problems with the law, but he has turned his life around, and now everyone (not at FR) loves him. He said tonight Paula gave him a medallion that says "Embrace Your Imperfections". Is that a New Age mantra or what?? Paula is loopy.
Anyway, he's still in, but I bet he goes next week.
Vonzell is sweet. I'm glad she's still in. She can hit high E-Flat, which Barbra Strident could never do when she sang "People" (according to Paula.)
Anwar is a black Shirley Temple. Those dimples and that smile take him a long way. I always expect him to burst out singing "On the Good Ship Lollipop."
I don't like either of the rockers anymore. They are not very versatile, and can only excel in their own genre.
Nadia looks like that Black Pantherette Angela Davis. I always have to wonder if she'll pull a bomb out of her bra.
Carrie has to be the next American Idol. She is flawless.
As I understand it, her CD would have totally bombed if some big-name black music industry types didn't boost her. She was awarded best new artist in the recent black music awards show. But then, so was Ruben after he won AI, and his career is in the toilet already.
I sure will, mystery. I simply don't like so-called urban music, which she's doing these days.
That's an understatement! Whew.
How Rueben won I'll never know....you knew he would never be able to endure the rigors of touring...he could barely perform two songs on one show.
Do you mean the way she sings?
Fantasia's performance was the most hideous thing I have ever seen.
It's actually too bad you missed it. You really need to see it to believe it.
OK - I couldn't wait and I decided to peek at this thread and find out who was out. I hate missing out on the live action - dang West Coast time difference.
BTW, Carrie should be the favorite to win this thing. However, the kids over on the AI boards are bubbling with resentment over two things about her. One, that her performance skills are poor and the judges never call her on it, even though they've gotten on other contestants for weak performance skills in the past. And two, that Simon continues to push her as his favorite to win.
He apparently went on Oprah this week and said Carrie is the one he thinks will win.
In the meantime, the young girls are still all ga-ga over Constantine and Bo.
I muted out Fantasia, too. Her clothes were way too tight.
"Is my butt too big?" Fanny-tasia would have been out weeks ago if she were competing with this year's group.
[Reuben's] career is in the toilet already
No kidding. Catch him and Kimberly Cauldwell (the blonde Kim from season 2) slumming on "Life On A Stick". Again, words fail me :(
Ruben won because the judges kept telling the audience that he was the best thing since sliced bread. In the meantime, they -- especially Simon -- often managed to find ways to downgrade Clay's performances.
At one point, Simon did a great disservice to young people all over the country when he said Clay was "too Broadway," or something to that effect. Simon meant it as an insult, as though being able to do Broadway musicals is a bad thing. The kids over on the AI boards still repeat that as a way to insult contestants they don't like.
"Nadia looks like that Black Pantherette Angela Davis. I always have to wonder if she'll pull a bomb out of her bra."
Ha!! Good one! The only problem is that she has nothing else to put into her bra. If Anwar shaved and put his hair up in a fro, they'd be identical twins!
Fanny-tasia! LOL! That's pretty funny.
I heard that the LAPD is going to use recordings of Fantasia to help "stun" the criminals into submission.
They're calling it Fan-Tazers.
I hope!
For reasons I will never understand, that style of, ummm, singing -- complete with way too many runs, trills and screechs -- seems to be very popular in the black music world. So is that very high, pseudo falsetto style that both Nikko and Anwar have. Nadia's natural style is similar to Fantasia, I think.
What ever happened to melodic singers like Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr. (in his earlier days), and so many other superb examples? Sigh.
The screeching, caterwauling, and rythmic speech (rap) that passes for black "music" these days is, frankly, an insult to the great contribution so many earlier black singers and musicians made to American popular music.
Maybe I should have recording it tonight so I could play back Fantasia in small doses.
Remember that old joke on Monty Python about the world's funniest joke?
It was so funny that you'd die laughing if you heard it.
That's like hearing Fantasia sing. You have to take it in small doses to keep your ears from bleeding.
I remember when they were down to the final four or so, the audience suddenly (and almost unanimously) became pro-Ruben. Curious.
She should win it. Hands down, she is the best natural singer in the competition. As you and I discussed a week or so ago, she can learn the stage craft she lacks now as a young, untrained amateur. But I think there's no question her main competition is from Bo and Constantine, with Vonzell being a possible dark horse. Bo has had a poor couple of weeks, while Constantine has actually done surprisingly well. Turns out he actually has a voice underneath all that hair, smarmy looks, and silly pretend-rocker stuff.
