His creative spark is gone and since the Cold War is now gone he can't bring back George Smiley anymore as Smiley is now about 99 years old according to the chronology.

You can't write historical novels set in a past time? Since when was this law passed? No prequels? Nothing?

Well yes he could but I doubt he will. I for one would love another good George Smiley novel but I think I read where Le Carre said he retired Smiley a long time ago and would not bring him back.
