Rod Stewart to wed for third time
Rock star Rod Stewart is to marry his girlfriend, model Penny Lancaster.The 60-year-old singer will wed Lancaster, 33, when his divorce from second wife Rachel Hunter is finalised.
Stewart and Lancaster have been together for five years. "I left it this long because I wanted to get it right this time," Stewart said.
"I've never been happier and more in love than I am today." Stewart got down on one knee to propose at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Wednesday.
Stewart's record company BMG said the couple planned to marry later this year.
Lancaster's agent Nicholas Young said: "There are no hard wedding plans yet. Rod's preference is to get married in Scotland."
Mr Young said Stewart asked permission from Lancaster's father before proposing.
"Having been satisfied his intentions were honourable and his prospects were reasonable, he gave consent," he said.
Stewart married Hunter in 1990 but they split after nine years. He was previously married to Alana Hamilton and has a daughter by model Kelly Emberg.
After a 40-year career, Stewart has enjoyed one of his most successful periods to date, topping the US album chart for the first time and winning his first Grammy Award.
Last June, Lancaster appeared in a one-off charity performance of the musical based on Stewart's songs, Tonight's The Night.
Two years ago, Stewart complained that the press and public "kill me because of Penny".
"I'm not upset by what people say, except when it's personal," he said, adding: "They never have a go at Paul McCartney for marrying a younger woman."

Wrinkly rocker Rod Stewart has gone down on one knee to ask model girlfriend Penny Lancaster to become wife number three.
The 60-year-old singer – for whom the phrase “gentlemen prefer blondes” could have been coined – proposed this week in the romantic environs of Paris’ Eiffel Tower.
And with her ecstatic “yes”, the leggy photographer/model, who celebrates her 34th birthday next week, is now set to join the elite ranks of Rod’s blondes who have made it up the aisle.
His penchant for tall blondes was something he even mentioned at the reception at his first wedding to Alana Hamilton. He married the Texan ex-wife of George Hamilton in 1979 but they split in 1984. They had two children, Kimberley and Sean.
Wife number two – unsurprisingly, also a tall blonde – was New Zealander Rachel Hunter.
After spotting the model in a Los Angeles nightclub, Rod swept the then 21-year-old off her feet, and they were married three months later. Two children, Liam and Renee, followed and Rod admitted, in contrast to all his past affairs, he was not unfaithful to her: “When I was married to Rachel, I never fancied anyone else. Seriously.”
But after eight years of marriage, the pair split – with her apparently citing one reason as the time he spent with his train set – in a departure which reportedly left Rod devastated.
But aside from the women who have walked the gravelly-voiced star to the altar, he has counted some of the world’s most beautiful women among his girlfriends.
Dee Harrington was his first serious squeeze, but the engaged pair split in 1975 after living together for four years, when he moved to America and she found he was dating Britt Ekland.
He and the Bond actress enjoyed an intense affair in the 1970s, but once their romance fizzled out, she sued him for £10 million under Californian law. They settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.
Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley briefly dated the football-mad singer in 1977, while American top model Kelly Emberg was the one for whom Rod left Alana.
He met her at a beauty contest in Acapulco, and the pair had a daughter, Ruby, but Rod and Kelly eventually parted. He then met the young Rachel Hunter in 1990.
He has since said that Emberg was the one person to whom he would now apologise, saying: “She is the most wonderful woman in the world and I messed her around terribly.”
Stewart split up with future wife Penny Lancaster for a short time to date supermodel Caprice in 1999.
Rod said later about the relationship: “I enjoy Caprice’s company – it just didn’t quite work out and the relationship came to an end. I suppose a lot of people would say that Caprice is the ultimate Rod Stewart babe, yet it didn’t feel right.”
But 6ft 1ins Lancaster now seems to have permanently won his heart.
They met when he spotted her at the Dorchester in London and asked her to take his photo at one of his concerts.
In interview 18 months ago, Penny said it was their fun-loving attitude that kept them together: “It’s a commitment to one another and being in love and having fun.
“The day-to-day joyfulness of being with one another, and not taking life too seriously.”

HUNTER SLAMS STEWART'S MARRIAGE PLANS
ROD STEWART's estranged wife RACHEL HUNTER has hinted catwalk beauty PENNY LANCASTER has agreed to marry the rocker for his money.
The 60-year-old DO YA THINK I'M SEXY? singer proposed to Lancaster on Saturday (12MAR05) during a romantic trip to Paris, France's Eiffel Tower.
But just a day after the couple announced their engagement, Hunter suggested Lancaster accepted the proposal for financial reasons.
She says, "I used to think marriage was so beautiful, but right now, it's just one big ugly contract.
"It is all about money, what people can get, and it has very little to do with church and vows. That is not me being angry, because I had a great marriage.
"The contract between Rod and me wasn't important, because I didn't take anything.
"But if you are truly in love with someone, why get that piece of paper from the government?"
