This past saturday I went to the local Cingular Store to change my account from Sprint (due to poor coverage).
All cell phone companies are just legal scam artists, IMO. On my list, they are rated just above HMO's which rank on the bottom.
Cingular is terrible....My Dad has Cingular.....HATES IT. We have always had Verizon and are very happy with the service and coverage. My oldest son uses T-mobile and they are pretty good too.
To be fair, we all have a little plaque, which is why I go to the dentists for a cleaning twice a year.
This is not the place to post your grievance. This is for relevant news/activism.
I got my cell 1 year and a half ago. I got a lot of information before making up my mind. The coverage is exactly the same for all companies.
I chose T-mobile because it uses european technology, to which other companies are tending too, and so that it works when I travell to Europe.
It works pretty well. Never had a problem. Actually the cell broke and got it changed right away.
Another vote for Verizon. IMO probably the best cell service you get (at least for now).
AT&T Wireless / Cingular is a racket bordering on criminal. I switched to Sprint last week and am happy (so far).
And while we're at it, let me tell you about HOME DEPOT. It's sad, HOME DEPOT used to be such a reliable place to shop.
I went to HD to buy and have installed Pergo flooring. The salesman said they were having a fabulous sale on hardwood (engineered) flooring, steered us to that, so he made the sale. He had the guy come measure, then called us back to say our floor was too uneven for that particular hardwood, we needed to select another product.
We went back to the store, selected the Pergo, (which I had wanted anyway), and the salesman said there would be no problem installing Pergo over our sub-floor. The Pergo was delivered, and for one week we waited for the contractor to call and schedule installation. Didn't happen. We talked to everyone at HOME DEPOT, and after 3 weeks, were told for the first time, we would have to have our sub-floors sanded so it would be level enough to install the Pergo. We balked. HOME DEPOT finally agreed to send out a contractor to price on how much he would charge to sand the sub-floor and prepare it for Pergo installation. An additional $5,000.00!!!! HOME DEPOT refused to pay. So, after all this aggravation, we had them come pick up the Pergo, which had been in my hallway all this time, and credited our account for the amount we paid. It's been a HOME DEPOT nightmare
Are Cingular and ATT Wireless part of the same amorphous network?
We used to have Alltel and their customer service was awful. We switched to T-Mobile about a month ago and have been happy. Also, T-Mobile's customer service has been very helpful and prompt.
We just have cell phone coverage for emergency situations.
I was with US Cellular for 5 years. When I was getting married, I was on the cell phone so much I rang up an $800 bill. I made a payment plan with them. A few months later my phone gets cut off. Seems my payment did not go through. When I asked them why they didn't call me to let me know there was a problem with my credit card, they told me that was between me and my bank and that my bank should have notified me. I thought that was outrageous -- especially given how long I'd been doing business with them. they then told me I had to pay the entire balance (at that point $500) to get my phone turned back on. I explained how ridiculous I thought that was. Managed to get them to to turn it on for $250. 3 days later my phone gets cut off again. I called them and they told me, and I quote, "The agent who agreed to those terms was not authorized to make such an arrangement."
Probably the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I've since moved to Alltel. They setup my new account and got me my phones via mail and ready to go in 24 hours.
I had a bad experience trying to get a Suncom account a few years ago and have been averse to going with Cingular now that the two companies are one.
The Sprint salesperson screwed up my whole order, EVERYTHING was wrong except the mintues. I think lieing to customers is policy at Sprint, I'm tempted to pay the $150 disconnect fee and go to Verizon.
Verizon to verizon calls are free. I went with verizon.
I called Cingular to tell them what had happened and no one could help me cuz the account is in my wife's name. I told them it was MY credit card, but to no avail. They wouldn't help. Then, it got even better!
I checked my credit card again, and not three charges were on it, but now, FIVE! Yikes! I called Cingular again and demanded to speak with someone who could fix the problem. Well the lady I spoke with, took care of the situation and apologized.
This whole scenario took about a week, but now am pleased with Cingular.
I agree with the poster who wrote that he/she has never had a problem with them in four years. My experience has been the same. I agree that you won't get a good deal in a store. We got our phones from a rep who called on my office. He gave me "almost-free" phones, loaners for a week, all kinds of deals, and $$$ credits when I got other people to sign up with him. Try to find one of those reps to deal with -- not the store.
The rep even dropped by to show me how to use them. The service has been great and way cheaper than what I had before. No long distance, or roaming, as long as I don't go over my minutes. Mostly what we like is that the reception is great.
Cingular to Cingular calls are also free.
Last fall on a business trip, five of us were in a van driving through the Mojave desert on our way to Las Vegas. Guess who had to pass his phone around so everyone else could check in? Moi, of course. 4-5 bars in the middle of nowhere! Best of all, with Verizon I can even talk from inside my house as opposed to standing out in the driveway as I had to do with the others. With "In" calling we were even able to drop our hardwire long distance carrier.
Gee, I wonder if they'll comp me for this?LOL
Love Verizon! My whole extended family is on Verizon and we talk to each other free, all the time, no restrictions.
