This past saturday I went to the local Cingular Store to change my account from Sprint (due to poor coverage).
Paging rebelbase. Incoming commo.
I picked up AT&T as a business cell about a year and a half ago. Now Cingular owns them. I went in last month for a new phone and they wouldn't sell me one without signing a new contract.
Since they couldn't give me a logical reason for forcing me into a new contract just because I wanted to buy a new phone I calmly told the sales rep to go f himself and left.
But speaking of lousy customer service! My daughter bought a gas range from a --um-- national store. Since we live near the middle of nowhere, we brought it home ourselves. But when it came time to connect the gas hose, NO ONE in the entire company could tell us the size needed for the connecting adaptor. pathetic!
People still use cell phones? That is so 2004ish....
As soon as my contract is up, I'm going to Verizon.
K-Mart sucks.
I HATE Cingular. Finally, I decided to switch. I went to my local AT&T Wireless dealer and got a phone. The next day they announced they were merging w/ Cingular...
Now I'm finally out of my contract and can freely go beyond Cingular. Yeah!!!!
I had to call every month to get false charges removed from my account (they continually charged me roaming for in-town calls). Their customer service would hang up on me if I asked them for their ID number.
We've had Cingular for a little under 2 years now and had nothing but problems. Incorrect bills, sales people who have lied, rude customer service representatives and more service problems then anyone would expect or accept.
After our contract is up we will look for another company.
I have heard a lot of good things about Verizon.
To provide a variation on your theme, I would like to go ahead and add T-Mobile to the "suck" category.
They have lousy coverage, only mediocre quality, and terrible customer service, with agents in their employ that border on being complete mental idiots.
Some cellphones suck.
I think maybe more to the point, some cellphone sales people suck -- two ways: (1)They don't know their product and plans; (2) they don't understand little things like right and wrong.
Getting "blown off" (is that like a Lewinsky?) is not surprising. They don't see anything wrong with making false representations, with promising what they cannot deliver. It's not an issue for them.
I'm as free market Capitalist as any and more than most, but I wish these swine would realize that every time they rip off (or unfairly inconvenience) a customer, they lend credence to the notion that businesses need more regulation and gummint control.
Are you telling me that a salesman over the phone lied to you? I'M SHOCKED!
Then the change came. They changed to Cingular. This was during the last year I was there.
The commisions on new number activations had gotten so low that the sales force from Corporate were like a bunch of vampires. They hired some real scumbags. At that time the number of people with active numbers who needed new phones or wanted the latest technology, outnumbered the new activations. When a salesperson found out that a customer already had an active number, they were treated as if they had the plaque. I got out just in time. The whole business is a sewer now.
My fiance' has a cell phone, but I don't. She said I could be added to her plan with my own phone, number, etc. Is that true? Does that cost a lot? All these years of a LAN line and she wants to get rid of it. Oh yeah, she has Cingular too. Ha. No cell phone? I blame Bush!(sar)
We upgraded to a Nation plan a month ago and drove down to Florida this past week. Had some spotty areas where their coverage says that it's not that good. Had 5 bars on the beach on Anna Maria Island and my mom could hear the waves crystal clear.
Consider me part of the (not so) silent majority that doesn't have a problem with cingular.
Cingular sucks.. I had them and just couldn't wait till the contract expired.. When it finally did, I switched to ATT..(work discounts)..
well, you know the rest.. bastards..
Greaaaat! We just signed with Cingular last week for 2 year. Arrrgghh! We did it online though and got 2 pretty nice phones for free. My husband had talked to a salesman in a nearby store and the exact same phones would have been a charge of about $140. He told my husband that if we did the online deal that it would take over a week to get the phones and that just about everyone has trouble activating them and he would have to come in to the store and pay to have him activate them. Well...turned out to be a lie. We got our phones 2 days after initially filling out the website info. And had no problem activating them. So far we are fairly pleased. But will keep an eye on them!
