im sure we will get a lot of people on here talking about the 40s and 30s and such...

I liked a few years ago when you could wear a tshirt and jeans (or sweatshirt and jeans) and be just fine. Other than that, I dont know. the 80's sucked and the 90's werent much better....

I loved the fashions of the 40s. The dresses, the hats. Gloves...of course I write this as I sit in my sweats...

The 1330s. Things have been going downhill ever since.

The high water mark of sartorial civilization should be obvious.

I love wearing gray fedoras, so I guess that puts me in the 30's-40's era.

The fashions of the 1940's were among the most glamorous ever.

The Regency period of course!
Empire dresses, pretty hair styles, gorgeous fabrics etc.

Great fashions for those with Sponge-Bob body types :)

The 1950s thru the mid sixties, IMO.

Gotta agree with that. Ladies fashions were superb.
And men always wore hats. Very dapper hats. I love to collect them. They're getting hard to find in good condition.

Which of the 20th cent? After FDR only? What?

Well, frankly, I like alot of the "ancient" styles - and I think the '10s were probably overall really neat.

The '40s were great, and I think the '50s were not much different.

The '60s SUCKED. All around, in every way, including "fashion" (whether hippie or average Joe).

I liked the '80s; I'm biased of course, but things were so cool and you had all kinds of choices; alot was retro '50s and such too. (Bet you forgot about that - and only think of "big hair", "mullets" [a term never used in the '80s] and "torn sweatshirts" - choices, but not really the norm.) Style-wise it was largely a "happy" decade (as well as in music) which showed alot of spunk and zest. That's how I view it.

But overall, perhaps I'd say the '40s were best. The '50s would do very well, too.

For me it's a tossup between the 1940's and the 1980's. I lounge around the house in sweats and t-shirts, but when I got to get up and go, it's polo shirts and cargo pants.

I think the mid '50's to mid '60's had the best taste. You know, just before everybody started dressing like slobs.

Hell, last week I went to a fairly nice restaurant and I noticed a couple of women, I swear , dressed in what looked like pajamas.

Best decade for women's fashions? 1800-1810, IMHO....

I love the way Lucille Ball dressed in "I Love Lucy". I especially like the fact that women wore gloves at that time. I'd dress that way now, but I'm afraid that my daughter would disown me.

I've got to go with the 1940's overall. Everyone looked so glamorous. But I love alot of the 50's fashions and put them at at close 2nd.

I recently viewed two films from the '30's, the original "Scarface" and the Al Jolson vehicle "Wonder Bar". The women's fashions in those movies were incredible! Plunging backless formal dresses everywhere, very sexy but not cheap and tawdry. Plus the makeup emphasis on the eyes was verrrry hot. Keep yer modern Hollywood tart, give me Ann Dvorak or Dolores Del Rio any day!

1900 - 1910

(From the August 1901 issue of the Delineator)

1910 - 1913 is also in my list:

(Picutre from January 15th, 1911 Ladies Home Journal by noted fashion illustrator M. Emma Musselman)

Going by the last 50 years I like the 1950's and 1980's the hest. BTW, love those Regency Era pics too.
