Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

mornin'
Hey...did you see my DanRather/EyeofSauron graphic?
I managed to figure out how to move the South Park Rather by accident (without the white background). Are there online tutorials for Photoshop? I need more practice and learnin'

I did see it! That's good! We should have put him in the graphic yesterday, but that's something ecurbh has to do, and he's too busy.
I don't know if there are online tutorials, it's a hard program to learn, I find it very counter-intuitive. ecurbh helps me with what I know how to do....

Don't worry about putting him in the graphic. I'm enjoying learning. But I'm still having a hard time taking sections of a picture out without having to crop it by hand. That one worked because I had a white background and I accidentally managed to do it with the "magic wand."
At the same time, I think I'd rather just get back out there with a canvas and oils...hope to be able to start doing that again by summer...

The cheapest way to go with email service is to get it on a smart cell phone. Just like Winmag said, it is the service cost that will get ya but it is worth a stop by a cell phone store to find out.
I have a Palm T1 and I am pretty happy with it.

I made a lot of really bad oil paintings in an earlier era. It sure is fun. I used to love to watch Bob Ross.

I made a lot of really bad oil paintings in an earlier era. I am of late discovering that choosing not to go down the path to follow those art skills was a mistake. If I had the money and the time, I'd go back to school to study art. I'd even enjoy teaching art.
Good heavens, did I just have an Epiphany????

We've got email capability on the phones we have, but we haven't signed up to use it.
I guess that's not essential for her. It would be for me. But I'm close enough to the computer during the day it's not a need.
That, and the fact that I find security in actually being able to write in my Daytimer.

Epiphanies can be dangerous things! ;-)
My oldest brother is just now leaving his job and moving to Southern CA (Encinidas?) to go to art school more or less full time...though he also does a lot of freelancing (writing and graphic design), so he won't be completely unemployed. Still, I admire his gumption. I'm scared enough of what I'm doing now!

I don't paint, but I loved watching Bob Ross, too. I know a lot of people laugh at him...but what he did was just so doggone cool! And calming...

I'm too old and tied down to just up and quit.
At this point I think art has to be an avocation, rather than a vocation.

The best way to learn photoshop is to mess with it a lot. Once you learn a couple tricks with it try comparing notes with someone else that knows it and learn some new ones. There are so many features in that thing that you will probably never learn them all but you only need a pocketful of them to do some fun stuff. My suggestions for things to experiment with are:
-just spend a little time tinkering with each of the tools in the pallet and seeing what they do.
-try different stuff with the 'layers'. A lot can be done with them so poke around with them and see how it looks
-the color picker tool is your friend. try and get good with that. Shift-click can be used with that to select lots of stuff you want to get rid of (or copy out to some place else). I have seen some online guides but mainly they were specific to doing a certain operation or task. Like here
http://machall.com/indexcontent.php?doshow=info_art where a webcomic artist tells how he builds up the comic in photoshop from pen&ink drawings. Getting a book on it does not hurt but most of the learnin is by messing with it. Once you feel like you have some stuff figured out then a book or guide is a nice way to learn even more tricks (since now you will know what they heck they are talking about).

I think you could be an excellent Bob Ross...

Layers is where I have trouble. I can do things with fixing exposure on all or part of it, I love the clone stamp tool, but I do it all on the same layer because I find the layers too complicated... ecurbh ~tries~ to help me.

I carry my Palm everywhere and use it a lot but I do notice a lot of the guys at work get more out of their daytimers than I do out of my palm. For one thing writing stuff is faster on real paper. I am a gadget nut but fully realize they are not always a real improvement. It totally depends on your usage profile. I use to jot notes on postit and then lose them. Now I keep them safe in the Palm so it works really well for me.
I mainly use my palm for shopping lists, reminders and contacts. That and my secret plans for global domination.

Yeah, I know your situation is different.
But it's a nice hobby! Might even be something that could pay for itself.
