Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

1: really sharp scissors
2: thimble
When thimbles fail to help on things like leather I go to Vicegrips. Most of my sewing has been on holsters and tactical gear so the vicegrips come in handy.

How cool! Aren't cons great? Did you take any of the kids?
Did you see a lot of Naruto wannabes? When I went to my con, Fullmetal Alchemist wasn't out over here so there weren't any Eds, even (but all the merchandise was cheap!). Lots of Inuyasha cosplayers and more stinky ninjas than you can shake a fist at. Also the inevatible six females crossplaying as Kenshin.
Hope there wasn't a Sailor Man there. Those are scary.

And check it twice... we should start by making something like costumes that don't matter. Plus I'll bet we could make an easy twenty bucks per costume by offering our services to my anime club if we ever felt the need... shinigami outfits can't be that hard. Right?

You should be flattered, Talon.
You know that you've truly become one-of-the-fold once the other fellas start bashin' ya! :-D

I don't have a sewing drawer, but I do own a sailmaker's needle, palm and some waxed line to sew things up with. Also some bait needles, for sewing up trolling baits. I believe the technique is the same for sewing pretty much anything, so I could sew up torn clothes if need be. OTOH, I am pretty sure my wife would not find the job acceptable for everyday wear. But it would hold.
Osage, do you ever find occasion to sew things like quivers, etc.?

Ehh...I don't do costumes. But I could make something like an apron - something that's simple, doesn't matter, and could be useful.

You can buy most of that from an online Kendo supply shop and then dye or modify as needed. The easy way to do stuff is find some thing similar and modify it. The only sewing I had to do once for one was moving the cloth ties on my Ranma top.
To: TalonDJ; RosieCotton
Rosie, I don't do "useful". Though I wouldn't mind trying to make some tops, I hate shirts I find at the store.
Talon, that's a good idea but it's cheating...

Cheating? Nah! It is what thrift stores are FOR.
