Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Help!
I can get to our church website from home. Had the same problem last night. But I got there okay from work today. Getting a DNS error.
I've checked the connections, cleared the cache, rebooted, yada yada yada...
It seems to be just this one site.
What do I do?
To: Corin Stormhands
First hunch is that there's something actually wrong with the church's ISP. Name server(s) down... something on that order... or maybe the church site is down, though that should be a 404.

Thanx everyone for your nice remarks, glad at least that you can tell who it is ;-) I appreciate it.
I want to develop a painting with W slicing up a bunch of small deformed idiot monsters that are trying to pull him off his horse while in the background is the true enemy, represented maybe by something on the order of the skeletons that Breughel used as metaphor for the black plague. That sounds way ambitious, but I figure, what the hey.

Can you post a link to the site that you can't reach? Maybe your ISP is having DNS problems.
To: Ramius; Bear_in_RoseBear
do you know the IP address? does it ping? And I would know how to do that...how?
I just sent you both the link by freepmail. Wife is checking to see if she can get there on the laptop.
To: Corin Stormhands
I'm getting to it just fine. It's the DNS servers at your ISP that are fungled.

We could try manually setting another DNS server to use until yours get un-fungled.

It'll also probly just fix itself in a little while. That's the sort of thing at ISP's that makes pagers go off. They'll probably have it fixed pretty soon.

I like it! He does sortof have that wild charge look about him!
To: Corin Stormhands; Ramius
I agree, the ISP's DNS is probably messed up. You can try calling your ISP's tech support and see if they know why or can fix it. Meanwhile, I freepmailed you the server's IP address for you to try.
I had this problem for months with freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net. Couldn't get to the site or view images hosted there. Then one day, after we'd been having lots of service drop-outs from our ISP, it came back. Never knew what the problem was...
