The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

mornin'. 'nuther purty day here.

Youth choir is singing this morning, so I took Jr. in at 7:45. We'll go to 2nd service. It's nice on the Sundays we get to do this.

osage/OT/Suzi (and others who just might know)...gardenin' questions.

The pansies I planted last fall that didn't do squat are coming back really nicely. Only problem is it messes up the colorscape around front. And mainly they're kinda in the way of some other stuff. I'm assuming I can just move or pot them...right?

And, I've got lilies coming up where I thought I'd moved them all in the fall. They're the red hot poker lilies and tiger lilies that do better in full sun. Can I move them now?

Darnedest thing. I had a peony bush die last year, so I just mowed over it. It's coming back strong and I potted it yesterday (it was in the way).

Hi Corin,

Yes, I'd move them now during planting season. You want to give them a chance to establish roots before summer. I just planted panseys and carpet bugle beside my front walk yesterday.

Guess the Lord knew the timing we needed this morning. My mom just called and let me know my uncle passed away.

It's not a surprise. He was in his 80s, had emphesema and had been on oxygen for years. They put him in a nursing home a couple of weeks ago because my aunt just couldn't care for him any more.

My aunt is my dad's last living sister. So out of that generation, my aunt, mom and stepdad are all that's left.

My uncle lived a good life, and had a strong faith. He's at peace now.

Don't know details yet, but we'll be going down this week for the funeral.

Yep. Steve is on call. He's also at the pollution collection event today. So I'm likely not going to see him all day.

Oh, Hair! I had the best time last night! Just the best time! We went to the VW Club of Tulsa and actually joined last night. Everyone is so nice and most of them are older folks...not elderly but like my parents age. They just LOVE having the boys there, although we kept them away for most of the meeting, Steve took them outside to look at the cars, all these classic old Beetles, Karmann Ghias, VW buses, Things. Not to mention the latest Jettas, Passats, and New Beetles.

After the meeting, we went out to eat at this neat pizza place...Hideaway Pizza, on the "main drag" of Tulsa...where all the fancy restaurants are...the "in" hub, you know? I have rarely even ever been there and never in the daytime. It was abuzz with activity! Very fun and exciting!

I have to announce my first significant purchase for My Precious...I bought two new wheels. Well, they're new to me, but they're off a 1970 Beetle in OKC. There was a "Show and Shine" in OKC yesterday and this guy from the club was going and the guy with the wheels met him there and sold him the wheels for me! Cost me $20.

He got the wheels, but didn't make it to the meeting last night. He called to tell me he was successful in getting them, though, so it's just a matter of time before I get them. Maybe next meeting...there's no rush.

Of course as soon as I get them, I'll post pictures.

LOL!! The other two wheels are ok. One of my wheels had a bad rim, totally banged up and made it difficult to roll. One of them wasn't stock for my car...it was some cheap replacement. It's ok, nothing wrong with it, it just didn't match and didn't "go" with my car. It'll make a good spare.

Now I've got four "stock" wheels. I'll show you a picture here in a sec.

Here it is. This costs from $35 to $50 depending on where you order, not including shipping. It's a brand new "reproduction" of my wheel. I got two of the real deal for $20!

Anyway, it is my first purchase that is actually putting the car back, so I'm very excited and tickled. Everything up until this point has just been taking apart. We've had to buy a few tools, but nothing too big. Had to get a couple of metric wrenches.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you! I met a man with a car that looked just like mine on the outside "almost". It was the same faded yellow...apparently when he repainted it, he just had it repainted the color it was when it was faded out! Weird, but whatever. He also had these little curly-ques painted on it here and there. "Custom", you know? It was nice, but not my cuppa tea. I'm just not a curly-que type person. The inside was completely redone with a fancy stereo system built into the luggage area behind the back seat. Very fancy, but again...not what I'm after.

Still, the car gave me an outside idea about how my car will look, hopefully, someday.

He was the original owner and I leaned down and looked at the date the car was made. It said "02/70" and I said "Oh, your car is two months older than mine!" He said "How do you know that?" I pointed out the month and year on the inside of his door and he said "Hmph!! I never noticed that before!"

:~D

Not too much snow on the ground yet but it's going to keep coming. And it's windy. I don't think I'd better try driving across the plains for church.

Oops...I must ammend what I just said. Steve took me to a salvage yard Friday and I got a nice dome light out of a 1969. Cost me a buck and I'm not sure it works. But it actually was my first purchase toward the Beetle...

I bet your pardon! ;-)
