The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmmm...good question. I really am going to just have to call my agent. I just don't know.

Just an old junky driver goes for around $2500, but a fully restored Beetle, depending on "how" it is restored (stock, custom) can go for several thousand dollars. Had a guy the other day tell us he wouldn't take 10K for his '66 custom.

See, my car is a 1970 with a 1967 motor and a 1972 radio. Those two items make my car "less stock"...so not worth as much.

It'd be good to know...

Of course, the closer you get it to done, the more the potential loss is emotional more than purely monetary.

It's not hard to find a cheap, LOUD alarm.

That's right...even now, when the car really isn't worth much, I would be devastated if someone took it. We've already put in enough work to make it valuable to me!

But I have considered removing the radio and putting it away somewhere...it's worth $150 (if it works...and it can be repaired.)

Unless you get targeted by someone knowledgable about old bug radios, who is looking for that radio in particular, most people who break into garages are looking for power tools that are worth more than that radio, really. No pawn shop is going to pay what a collector would for that radio.

But if you'll lay awake worrying about it, then certainly put it somewhere safe :~D

This guy repairs them. I dunno...will have to see if it's worth it or if I could just buy another one if this one does work (eventually). They sell these plates you can put in the radio's place, if I decide not to repair this one (if it even needs repair...who knows? I don't know.)

Hey, I contacted my isp and told them the difficulty I was having. It had gotten to the point that none of my graphics were loading or anything!

They fixed it!

Thank you for your help last night with the auction. I wasn't sure what time I was supposed to be watching it! Because of your help, I made it to the library and got my bid in on time. Thanks again!

You can get motion detector lights. They'll turn on if they sense someone walking nearby. Might at least scare someone away when they turn on.

I know it's late but I just put a split turkey breast in the oven. It should be done by halftime, shouldn't it? :)

There's lots of little security gizmos that work pretty well... and some that don't. One of them that's pretty handy is a little battery-powered door-hanger that you put on the doorknob.

If the knob gets rattled it goes off. Squeals pretty loud. Between $5-10 at a hardware store.

Here's something from Radio Shack

Apparently gives you some time to set it and get away.

That one looks like it mounts to the wall... would work.

Motion-detector lights are a really good thing too.

Yeah...I think you can get one that just plugs in and then you plug a light in to it...that would work out there...

Well, the car's locked up tight as I can lock it tonight. But it really is something I want to look in to.

There's all kinds of people following this Bug's progress online...complete strangers...you just never know.

Yah... the key is noise and light. Burglars want things to be quiet and dark and sneaky. Any unexpected loud bells and whistles and bright light and they're pretty much gonna beat feet.
