Bay mows for free, but I wouldn't say he does a good job!
We need a new lawnmower too, I think. Gonna take the John Deer to the shop first and have them work on it... I think it just has water in the carburator again, and dad said it's a bear to take apart.
I think the fancier the lawnmore, the touchier it is about fuel. I swear, I've had $50 rusty garage sale lawnmowers that will run on anything and start every time. Since I've had this self-propelled nicer John Deer, my dad's hand-me-down, we've had nothing but trouble with it not starting. It won't burn gas that's been in the tank or the can for a while, it seems to get water in the gas that you can't dump out... Frankly, I am tired of dumping gas in the driveway trying to empty the thing out.
My dad's even newer, even fancier John Deer has the same problem... it just won't start unless the fuel is perfect and all the stars are aligned. I'm really thinking of looking for one of the old rusty trusties from a garage sale again. Simple engine, simple needs.

Not sure what to do today. I should go to Home Depot for some good dirt and to shop around in the plant department. Acutally, I should get a good charcoal grill but I'm getting allergic to spending money again. I need to stop listening to Jack Benny. :)
Got a late start this morning....I watched "Notorious" after the Batwoman movie last night and slept in too late this morning.
Well... it's all live-action; the CGI is used to make it look "comic-booky". For instance, all the color is drained out of the film to make most everything black and white, except for certain objects: a cherry-red Cadillac convertible, a blonde in a blue dress, etc. The blood and blood-spatters are sometimes black, sometimes white, but most often a sickly neon yellow. Some of the more violent scenes (a man shooting himself in the head, for instance) are shown in white silhouette on a black background.
Before you go, I would recommend stopping by a comic speciality shop, or a Barnes & Noble, and taking a look at the Sin City graphic novels. The three that the movie is based on are "The Hard Good-Bye", "The Big Fat Kill", and "That Yellow Bastard". I haven't read them myself, but as far as I can tell the movie is very faithful to the storylines and the style of the graphic novels.
Gypsy and Annie start demanding breakfast at between 5:30 and 5:45, so our chances of sleeping in are between slim and none!
I was in the "spend no money" mode last year, and the mulch was 'good enough'. This year, the vet bills have decreased dramatically and the mulch really does have to be replaced. Looks like we are going to get our lilacs to bloom, for the first time ever! I put lime on them in the spring and fall, that was all they needed.
Miss Peege got breakfast around 6:00....and I went back to bed.
Maybe I should try to dig up the ground between the walk and the planter box. I need to plant something on that patch of dirt. I can pot up the nandina and the grape vine...need to plan something for the planter box. I'd put the catnip out there but I don't know if it's big enough to survive being rolled on by any neighbor cats.
Just came back from Home Depot with seeds, plants, and dirt. I've got better things to do than taxes. :)
Then I have to find the latest account statements....have to meet with "Dean Witter" on Monday.
Then I have to figure out whom to vote for on Tuesday.
And I still don't have a grill. *sigh*
I replaced the rosemary and the lavender that I kilt last year. They have ajuga ("carpet bugle") here. WooHoo! I got some panseys to mix in with the carpet bugle. I wanted to get an azalea bush but I'm not sure where to put it.
*Sigh* Didn't get a pet door either.
Afternoon - just finished lunch, cleaned up a couple areas that were in need of it, LSA was putting the cypress mulch around the redbud and a couple of shrubs. Looks quite nice now.
Another little patch of wild onions and grass has been dug out, dirt turned and ready for planting some more something. Haven't decided yet.
It is amazing that shingle oak leaves never seem to decompose, they just set there. sigh.
About half done on the north side of thehouse.
We believe a bit of a break is in order.

I'm just finishing lunch myself. Think I'll change the furnace filter whilst the cat is sleeping. I don't want to have to drag her out of the crawlspace.
OH THOSE ARE ADORABLE!!! And she looks so happy getting the food EVERYWHERE!! LOL
Ive been playing in the dirt today as well...in fact, that was my birthday gift : a yard of dirt for my herb garden! (I am trying to put together photos of before and after. Not quite finished yet. Need another yard of dirt.)
My dirt's indoors. But the green things are sprouting.
Is it? LOL! Am scared to ask what kind of green things are sprouting.

Mostly herbs but I've got a couple flowery type things. I hope they're big enough later in the week to move outside, since Rosie's cats are moving in Thursday or Friday.
Mmmm... dirt. I'm gonna play in it tomorrow. Need some garden therapy to improve my frame of mind.
I played in dirt earlier - clambering about rocks during a hike. Now I'm tired and rather sun-touched. I may post pictures later if I feel like it but it's not really a very cheerful day.
It's been raining cats-n-dogs all day today. Flood warnings everywhere. We ventured out to get dog food and other sundry items. There was a gal at the feed store with two llamas that people could pet. They have such silly faces but sweet eyes. The best part was that they didn't smell.
