The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I was with someone one time who ordered it "well-done" and I nearly fainted. You'd be fainting around me all the time then.
1) My step dad was a butcher.
2) I remember biology class.

Jerry must be sitting at his PC right now, because this is the email I got a couple of minutes ago, in response to the one I just sent him.
RICHARD, I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. I HAVE PASSED ON ALL THE
KNIFES THAT YOU HAVE SENT TO ME AS I CARRY A LEATHERMAN ON MY BELT THAT
TAKES CARE OF MY NEEDS. I SERVED IN VIETNAM AS A RANGER WHERE I CARRIED A
CAMILLUS K-BAR STYLE KNIFE THAT I STILL HAVE AT HOME. IT HAS SERVED ME WELL
FOR MOST OF MY LIFE AND TO OWN ANOTHER WOULD BE WONDERFUL. IT IS MY
PLEASURE TO SERVE HERE IN DJIBOUTI AND DO MY PART.
AS TO WHAT WE COULD USE, WELL ANYTHING YOU HAVE THAT YOU CAN SPARE TO SEND
HERE WOULD BE APPRECIATED AND WELL RECEIVED. AS YOU DIRECTED ME EARLY ON I
HAVE TAKEN IT UPON MYSELF TO FIND SOME DESERVING TROOPS WHO COULD USE AND
APPRECIATE THESE KNIVES. SO FAR I HAVE DONE SO AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO AS
LONG AS THE SUPPLY CONTINUES. TO YOU AND ALL YOUR COHORTS THANK YOU FROM
DJIBOUTI.
JERRY

Regarding our other project, used baseball/softball mitts appear to be as seasonal with Goodwill, The SalArmy and St. Vincents as the new stuff is at those stores. I've put out a call around work, and will continue to look.
Any Holer planning to replace the family baseball/softball mitts, please consider sending the old ones to me (adult sizes) for one of our Marines and his comrades.

Good morning!
It's snowing. Pretty hard. We're supposed to get up to 14 inches by tomorrow morning. Since it's warmish...the roads were really dicey this morning - slush is nasty!
Guess our winter waited until March to arrive!

Good morning!
We got rid of those trash guys...the one that was walking down the street munching on popcorn and digging through my trash. They were just walking along taking the top bags out and blowing off the trash in the bottom of dumpster...too lazy to hook it to the truck and dump it.
So we switched to another company.
Waiting for the jedis to wake up...gonna give 'em a few more minutes. I gotta go get chicken feed right away, the girls are standing at the door begging!

They're only predicting 4-6" around here. Seeing how wrong they got the last prediction, I'd better get to the store in case we end up with a foot!
If they close the Community College, this will be the 4th week in a row that Clare will not have had Chem class!

Ha! Joshua just got up. I asked him if he wanted to go get donut holes. He said and I quote "I can never say no to donut holes! Even though one just about makes me sick, I can still eat a few more!"
Heh!!

I'm kind of surprised they didn't close us down. Even the local high school is closed, and it has to be really bad before they do that.
And though it's pretty bad now, the main thing is that it's going to keep coming down heavily all day...which will make it hard to get home.
We'll see what happens, I guess!

Mmmmmm...donut holes...
Dunkin Donuts now makes jelly donut holes. Now...obviously those aren't really donut holes! But they're soooo good.
I guess I should add that to my list of places-where-I-want-to-eat-one-last-time sometime in the next few weeks. I better start doin' a lot of walking...

I dunno Rose. I never have been keen on greens of any sort, 'cept for raw spinach and lettuce for salads. I tried to eat 'em once, and just couldn't do it. Then again, I can't stand cabbage either. Fired corn is yum, but *creamed corn* is icky IMO. My dad adored creamed corn (shivers).

I like spinach and other greens and cabbage and such...but I do think a lot of it is in the preparation! Almost ANY green tastes great with bacon grease. Mmmm...bacon grease... Or corned beef and cabbage or cabbage rolls. Yum!
But I also like spinach with just olive oil and vinegar.
I also LOVE okra...which makes me part of a small but privileged portion of the population, I guess. ;-)
