I have a few seed feeders hanging near a muscadine bush, a couple of hummingbird feeders I put out in late spring, a couple of nest boxes. etc...

My next project is some bat boxes to hopefully attract some fruit bats, which eat mosquitos.

I've never seen bats here, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I had honestly never thought of bat boxes until I started the original thread and it was being discussed. As bad as mosquitoes can get here in the summer, especially considering the diseases they can be carrying these days, and the fact that they seem to think I am a gourmet meal, it might not be a bad idea.

My next project is some bat boxes to hopefully attract some fruit bats, which eat mosquitos. Good luck. I tried that a couple of years ago - the wasps LOVE those little boxes. And, as I understand, you can't spray wasp killer in the boxes, because that'll drive off the bats.

I know we have bats, but I never considered trying to attract them. I hate mosquitos.

As far as birds, I have found they like shrubs and shrub like trees to hide from predators while they eat. Half of my acre is still wooded and I have many birds. I put out seed, suet and have a small pond that they drink water from.

We live in the Sierras, and outside on our deck right now are about 45 Hummingbirds trying to feed on 8 feeders hanging there. It is an amazing sight, not to mention sound!
