The Swedish government has the policy that all gender roles are cultural. In fact, recently a book was compiled and a neurologist (female at that) stated that some traits associated with gender are biological -- not social. The Swedish government has threatened that if the quote is not removed they will pull all funding for it. So much for any notion that Swedish students will get an education -- the government wants it to be indoctrination.

Here is what the Swedish government intends to do to start combatting so-called gender roles:

"In Sweden, 83% of young children attend daycare centres because their parents work. The Government, in its efforts to further gender equality, has appointed a delegation to look at how pre-schools can help to prevent stereotypical gender values being passed on to the very youngest members of society."

and...

"Children enter pre-school at a time in their development when many basic values and many perceptions of what is ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ take root. A considerable volume of research shows that young children are highly receptive and quick to learn, not least in terms of the way girls and boys are expected to act."

and...

"A fundamental principle in the delegation’s mandate is that lifelong learning must incorporate a gender perspective, so that outdated and stereotype gender roles and patterns may in time be brought to an end."

Of course, one asks, what "outdated" gender roles are to be attacked -- and who decides, the Swedish bureaucrates?

Isn't Sweden the place where recently feminists tried to pass some sort of request whereas men were asked to sit down while urinating because women cannot urinate standing up and this was inherently unfair to women? I recall reading something along the lines of this.

So....the problem is with the adults who are "close to" the child in the early years of life. Let's see...who would that be? Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles maybe?

This reminds of something a friend of mine once told me. His wife's friend, a schoolteacher, was visting at their home. My friend started talking with her about education and said that he thought it would be a good idea for parents to have a bigger and more active role in the schools.

The teacher's reply: "Why? So the kids would turn out like you?
