Should pornography be illegal?
Feb 28th 2005 | Me

Prostitution: one adult pays another adult for sex- is illegal

Pornography: Where one adult pays two adults to have sex and brings a camera, This is legal.

Pornography has been around for over one hundred years, since the time of the camera,

but it has only been the last few decades where it became the money making industry that it is today. And today's pornography is much much worse.

This question came to me after reading this article

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1353029/posts

an excerpt "The Justice Department is appealing the dismissal of an obscenity case in Pittsburgh in which a federal judge said prosecutors went too far in trying to block the sale of pornographic movies over the Internet and through the mail. The case initially was prosecuted under Ashcroft""

Should pornography be illegal?

It's an opinion question, you answer, give your reasons. Is it free speech or not? Why. And where is the line drawn? Has pornography promoted homosexuality and unsafe sex? Or is it a privacy issue?

Should there be standards on pornography?

Concerned Women for America say No- what do you think?

That is an urban legend; the opposite is true. The German government rejected a brothel's employment ad out of fear that acceptance of the ad could lead to people being forced into prostitution.

No, just read them and keep them insignificant as possible.

That isn't the question I asked, now is it? Where are these places that ban the ownership on drinks and smokes?

The Internet can be used from immoral purposes, should it be banned?

If we're endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights wouldn't it behoove us to respect His laws?

Sure. However, government-imposed virtue is false virtue. Look at the Muslim world where "modesty" and "virtue" are imposed at lash- and gun-point.

No government law can make an immoral person moral.

And even if we were a society with no compunction about a Creator or religion, wouldn't it benefit us all to adhere to basic tenets of goodness? At the least from a health standpoint?

Sure. Do you want to give the government the power to enforce basic tenets of goodness at gunpoint?

And what will you do when that government decides something you do (such as going to church) goes against such "basic tenets of goodness?"

They're already regulated, and banned, in some locales.

Smoking and drinking by people in the privacy of their own home is not illegal anywhere in this country.

Anyway, even though government has already gone too far in telling people what they can and cannot do on their own property, the solution is not to further increase its power.

Please implement a 'mute' option!
There are a few folks in here whose constant bile denigrates the entire FR experience.

IOW, would it be too terribly difficult to give us an 'ignore poster' option ??

""No government law can make an immoral person moral.""

Well, I think that by condemning something that is wrong, our government sets a morality standard that is followed by people.

We already have one. I use mine frequently.

Insteasd of straining to appear clever why don't you just ask politely? BTW, I never referred to any ban on "ownership".

FALSE, if you drink excessivly while home ALONE as the guardian of a minor in your custody, you could go to jail and lose parental rights if you are drunk often enough while caring for kids IMO.

And I never said it was.

(Well I am biased)

what percent on FR do you think is liberatarian?

I think it would be great if the Democratic party would just go away, and instead we had social conservatives and liberatarians. They would just balance eachother out,

The question I asked was "Should we ban smoking and drinking too?" It is simple and to the point. The fact that you appear to have not understood the questions reflects more on you than it does on me.

"what percent on FR do you think is libertarian?"

IMO, virtually almost all that favor pornography, vice in general, abortion, homosexuality, gay marriage, open borders and such.

Sure, at gunpoint. If people only follow moral rules for fear that they'll go to jail, they weren't moral in the first place.

Even if muder became legal tomorrow, I still wouldn't murder people.

Libertarians are for the most part social liberals/anarchists now. In many ways they are far more to the left than liberals at times.
