You don't happen to work for the Idaho Supreme Court, do you? (where my ex-boss migrated after her stint in my state)
Nope....
Unfortunately there must be more than one of them.
FRegards,
Wouldn't it be nice just once to work for a boss that was competant? I've had many bosses and ther is only one or two that really had their act together. The rest seemed to be always riding on the edge of getting fired.
AGAIN!
never!
I prefer to work for myself, and being a male, that should settle it. :o)
You hiring? I dislike working for women.
In my experience as a female employee in the public sector (teacher) and private sector (tech writer), I'd have to say that female bosses were the worst. Now, the male and female bosses I've had may have been equally competent or incompetent, but too many of the females bring emotional baggage. They've been vindictive, and out to prove something. Everything is personal with them.
I agree with previous posts about females holding on to grudges, and judging people by their looks. Once they select the victim of their wrath, they're like bull terriers. Women complain about men having "testosterone poisoning", but just put a good-looking 20-something male near them, and all rational thought ceases.
I turned down a permanent job at one Fortune 500 company where I was working as an independent contractor, because the estrogen level was just too high. If a male boss had behaved as badly as that female boss did, he'd be out on his a**.
At a place I worked at last year, the female CEO have a bizarre emotional breakdown during a company meeting. The woman who took her place shortly afterward introduced herself with the most egotistical meeting I've ever attended; it was all "me, me, me".
Frankly, I've been somewhat astonished at the lack of management ability I've experienced among my female bosses, and am at a loss to explain it. These are women who have been managers for years.
The male bosses I've worked with may not have been the brightest bulbs in the pack, but you can constructively disagree with them. And they do appreciate it when your work helps meet their goals. They don't seem to have hidden agendas.
Unless they are FReepers ;)
Same here - on both counts.
Always prefered males. Women, as a rule, are catty and backstabbing.
I'm the only good female boss I know. Sadly, good bosses or either gender are hard to find. Unfortunately, bad bosses beget more bad bosses. Hence, we have so many bad bosses in this world.
Worst supervisors I've had have been in the military and most of them have been males.
I'm a dude, BTW.
I know I'll sound like a lib with this answer but it is the truth. In my 20 years in the workforce I have had white bosses, black bosses, asian, hispanic and middle-eastern bosses. I have worked for males and females, gays and straights. I have worked for pushovers and dictators. Intellegent people and incompitent rubes. And I have been a supervisor myself.
I truly do not think gender, race or any of these labels factor into what makes a boss good.
A good boss is fair, consistent, knows how to delegate responsibility properly, accepts constructive criticism without getting defensive, reprimands privately and most importantly, lays down clearly what is expected of you in the proper execution of your job. If someone possesses these skills, it doesn't matter what gender they are.
That being said, I have found these qualities to be more common in female supervisors than male ones.
No.
I am a housewife since 1978.
I have worked for both male and female boss'.
I have always gotten along far better with the male boss than with the female boss.
It always seemed with females I have worked for we were always in the midst of a battle of wits and intellectual domain. The women I have worked for in the past seemed to usually take offense at women who are just as or more intelligent than themselves.
While working for men, I have been able to acticipate what they wanted or needed and the working relationship was always one where we complimented each others' working style.
My boss for the past 13 years, who is female, at times gets a little controlling. She'll have a need to blow off steam, especially in my direction. But other times she can be very motherly and caring. Generally, male bosses are a little more easy-going, though, as father-figures, sometimes patronizing.
Generally, I find it's the personality, more than the gender. As long as either sex lets me do my own thing, I'm fine.
Look, I'm hardly the model employee. And frankly, I'm grateful for anyone who puts up with me.
