Begins March 1 on CBS, 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific
Here we go again, race fans, for the Seventh Season of The Amazing Race (TAR7). We'll vicariously travel with eleven teams as they fly, drive, climb, crawl, leap, slide, and boogie around the world to compete for one million dollars. They'll never know where they're going next or what they'll have to do once there. The last team to arrive at the "designated pit stop" at the end of each week's episode will be eliminated from the race -- unless it is not. So pull up your favorite armchair and travel along with the Freeper Amazing Race contingent every Tuesday night for the next few months as we root for favorites, throw tomatoes at the others, and wish we were the ones living dangerously. BON VOYAGE!
A Thumbnail Photo Guide To This Season's Possibly Amazing Racers
Brian, 27 & Greg, 24 are brothers from Santa Monica, California. Brian is an actor/bartender and Greg is a bouncer. Their primary motivation for participating in the Race is to travel the world with each other and meet new people. Veto!s opinion: Team Bro wants face time on tv. They are big, strong, in shape, and they think they're action stars. But are they wily? Could be they'll be eating other teams' dust.
Debbie & Bianca are best friends from Los Angeles, California and Woodbridge, Virginia, respectively. Bianca is a high school teacher and Debbie works as a photographer. Both are highly educated, experienced travelers, and have lived abroad. Veto!s opinion: Keep an eye on these two. Unless they scratch each others eyes out, theyll probably do just fine.
Lynn & Alex are (would you believe?) a gay couple from West Hollywood, California. They both work as executive assistants. With their four-year anniversary on the horizon, they possibly hope to get married in Amsterdamif indeed they race through Amsterdam. Veto!s opinion: Need I say?
Megan & Heidi, a make-up artist and fashion designer, are roommates from Oak Park, California. Both are allegedly extremely competitive and not afraid to take risks. They decided to sign up for the Race just for the challenge and competition. Veto!s opinion:. Can the Hair Queens keep up the pace when their tresses get tangled? I see hissy fits on the horizon.
Meredith, 69, & Gretchen, 66, are a husband/wife team from Easton, Maryland. Meredith is a retired executive and Gretchen is a retired nurse/flight attendant. He holds seven National Masters Swimming Championship titles, she admits to being quite loud, particularly when upset. . Veto!s opinion: If Gretch doesnt turn into Nurse Ratched, they may go far and win Freeper kudos for their efforts.
Ray, 44, & Deana, 27, are a dating-on-and-off team from Canfield, Ohio and Youngstown, Ohio respectively. Ray, a former semi-pro football player, is a stockbroker and Deana is a marketing and promotions executive. Both enjoy weight lifting and karate. Veto!s opinion:This seasons will their relationship last? team. Ray will overdo it trying to beat younger guys. Ho-hum.
Rob, 29, & Amber, 26, AKA Boston Rob and Ambuh, are an engaged couple from Canton, Massachusetts and Beaver, Pennsylvania, respectively. They formed an alliance and fell in love when they competed with each other on Survivor: All Stars. Amber won the one million dollar prize. Rob finished as the $100k runner-up, but proposed to Amber before they knew which had won the big bucks. Veto!s opinion: Two Thumbs Up! Highly athletic and competitive, these two know how to work together. But will their take-over-the-hood skills that won them Survivor translate to racings Hall of Fame? Why, indeed, not?
Ron, 28, & Kelly, 26, are a dating Team from Villa Rica, Georgia and Greenville, South Carolina, respectively. Ron is a former Iraq War POW who is currently a student at the University of Georgia and works as a motivational speaker. Kelly was crowned Miss South Carolina in 2002 and works as a Legislative Correspondent
(for whom?) Ron was an Apache helicopter pilot in Iraq. When shot down, he was captured, interrogated, held captive and later rescued by the United States Marines. Following his rescue, Ron returned home and was introduced to the reigning Miss South Carolina. The two have been an item ever since. Ron is very competitive and admits hes a thrill seeker. . Veto!s opinion: Two more thumbs 'way up. Theyll be Freepers favorites, and they have what it takes to win.
Ryan, 31, & Chuck, 32, are lifelong friends from Landrum, South Carolina and Inman, South Carolina, respectively. Ryan is a general contractor, and Chuck works in boiler tube replacement sales. Both are motorcycle nuts and very religious. . Veto!s opinion: Definitely wily Southern boys. Up against tough competition, but I hope they make a good showing.
Uchenna, 40, & Joyce, 44, a childless married couple from Houston. Uchenna worked for Enron as an energy trader and Joyce worked in sales for WorldCom, have different jobs since their companies went bankrupt. If they win, they say theyll use the money for in-vitro fertilization. Veto!s opinion:A tough, scrappy pair, but too much tension here, methinks, for them to get much traction. Theyre hardly Kim and Chip, the wonderful black couple who won Amazing Race two seasons back.
Susan, 54, & Patrick, 26, are mother and gay son. She is the Director for Judicial Affairs for Miami University in Ohio and Patrick is a writer now living in Hollywood. Susan, married to Patricks father for 34 years, earned her college degree as a non-traditional student. Patrick says his family has always been very supportive of him, even surprise, surprise-- when he told them he was gay. Veto!s opinion: Theyre looking for love in all the wrong places; hopefully, their elimination from the show will be swift and merciful.
Thats it for the Preview.
You nailed it! Ray and Deana are gone. :) And I am so happy, even though he did say he was a Bush man, as in voted for Bush.
Wow, Metch is going to have some serious BO if they make it all the way to the end.
They take all your stuff this season, not just your money. Part 2 is just starting...back to the show.
Why did Team Ex-lex get to throw their spears from closer in (I got a phone call so I missed the beginning) Oh well, I'll catch it when I watch the recording.
Seems the whole world watches Survivor. I'm amazed how many people in South Africa know Romber.
Wow Ray...what a guy.
It's only a game, no need to break up over it.
Idiot
All in all, a terrific two hours!
I was ticked at Rob and Amber too when they failed to stop for the wreck. But even worse, Nurse Gretchen didn't stop!!!! THAT really amazed me. So why should Rob take all the heat when only Ex-Lax stopped? Rob did take a minute to play with the kids at the orphanage, so he's really not a monster.
I have to admit that the gay fellows went up a notch in my estimation. Stopping to check on the bros really was a decent thing to do, gotta hand it to them. And they are racing well too.
Ron and Kelly are looking really good now, seem to have hit their stride. Ray and Deana had their moments, but how in the world could they have fallen from first to last place in one lap? About pounding corn? Couldn't they have switched to the water feat? I'll have to look up the rules. Both teams that chose to fill eggs with water completed the task quickly.
Gretchen didn't need to stop because the medics were already there at that point. They were not there when Rob and Amber passed on by. This will make the other teams really work together to keep them from winning. Next weeks' preview show Kelly coming unglued. Ron would do better with a different partner.
Yup - I agree.
And, like Rob said, it is a race. What could they have done by stopping and getting out? Get in the way?
He should have slowed down and asked, though. Would have only cost him bout a minute.
That said, the Fagolas were campaigning for the Nobel Prize just for doing the right thing and stopping to see how everybody was. Good for them for not being dickwads like Rob though.
Ray was moving into Jonathan (from last season) territory down the stretch. What an unbearable jerk! The girl was about as exciting as unflavored oatmeal, but she can still do far better than him (unless there's sun in her eyes, which causes her to contort her face so much she looks like a plane crash survivor.) Ray was constantly spouting off with the "we're not a back of the pack team!" when they were constantly in the back of the pack. And why was she always driving? Does Mr. "She doesn't bring enough to this team" not know how to drive stick? The only reason they finished first once was that they lucked into an airline upgrade that got them to the Fast Forward first. No skill whatsoever on their part. Then they managed to crash from first to worst in a single leg. And another thing, he kept ragging on the oldies about being too old for the race - he's got a lot of nerve. That ugly bandana on his head wasn't fashion, it was hiding his wrinkled bald head. He was probably a high school freshman when they were seniors.
I can't believe the oldies have made it this far. Maybe that knock in the head rattled a few brain cells loose. They've grown less annoying, but that's just relative their high annoyance rating early. They're next to go or I eat my hat.
So, I still like watching Rob play the game, but I hope he loses. I'm rooting for the Phish brothers. And I'm neutral towards Ucheena and Joyce and the Fagolas.
Agreed she is most annoying. I bet cause of her Meredith has had more than one affair during his marriage.
I like and support the romber in this race, but quite honestly I think that was not a smart move.
Oh no wait, forget it.
ExLax sort of evolved from scrambling alEX and Lynn, starting with ExLynn and moving to ExLax, an allusion you already understand.
But they were good guys last night, so I'm going back to ExLynn pro tem. And they are running a good race, recovering rather smartly from their driving error that landed them in the middle of a city that "looks like Compton." LOL if you know what Compton looks like.
Rob is getting flustered. For the first time, we saw him ragging on Amber, pushing her to decide about waiting for the Fast Forward. She looked amazed, so I doubt it happens often, and it certainly wasn't in the Jonathan/Ray abusive category. He recovered and did a good job in the tribal village, using his head to figure out what belonged where. Still, I think the race is getting to him and he's a less smooth operator than he was at first. Maybe a good night's sleep will fix him up. I don't care whether Romber wins, but do find them enormously entertaining and hope they stay around.
Aha about Gretch and the medics being there. But Lynn and Alex were there when Rob sped past, so the bros were not alone. Also, a helicopter was accompanying the teams and other production vehicles and staff too, including that medic, which of course the teams knew about.
I have no ability whatsoever to deal with cuts scrapes and wounds, so might have driven past too, thinking I'd only be in the way. But I surely would have stopped to ask if they were OK before going on my way. I don't think Romber made their reputation worse with the other teams last night, as it was already at rock bottom where everyone who can will Yield them and no one will lend them money if they run out, etc etc.
Rob is playing a smart game, but perhaps he's outsmarting himself.
I loved how the brothers entered the orphanage, really playing it up, they are so cool! And the prayer for the camera man made it clear they are comforable with praying and the line about their momma's chicken enchiladas made me laugh. They are as fun as Ray was uptight. I am still rooting for Rob though, he is just so everyman. Comfortable in his own masculine skin and not afraid to take charge. No wonder the fagolas hate him.
LOL. And they won it.
Rob was indeed a jerk, which doesn't change his already tarnished status with the rest of the teams.
The AARPs were fun last night, forging on in bandages and borrowed clothes. Can they last much longer? Not unless another team really fouls up.
The brothers are uneven, making big mistakes that work against their natural strength and energy. I like them better with every episode, especially their grit and determination to come back from that crash and beat out nasty Ray and his rather masochistic girlfriend. I don't think they'll make it to the end.
At this point, I'm a little soured on Romber so I'm not rooting for anyone. I'm just a passenger along for the ride.
Excellent point! And they'd have cackled as they spewed dust in romber's faces. I'm rescinding their Nobel prize.
Yes, the Bros really came into their own last night. It was the first time I've been excited about them and hoped they wouldn't lose. They've got the Right Stuff for sure.
