Vikings deal Randy Moss to Oakland Raiders

The St. Paul Pioneer Press is reporting that the Vikings will send All-Pro wideout Randy Moss to the Raiders in exchange for linebacker Napolean Harris, the seventh overall pick in the upcoming draft, and another late-round pick. The trade can't be officially made until March 2, but Moss' agent, Dante DiTrapano, informed the paper that the deal is completed. "In speaking with Moss, although he has a lot of ties to Minnesota and did not particularly want to be traded, he's very excited with the possibility of playing for Al Davis and being a part of the Raider tradition," DiTrapano said. "The Raiders have vowed to use Randy's talents the way they should be used, and that's to throw the ball vertically down the field. Randy's desire to win a Super Bowl is enhanced with a move to a team like the Raiders, because the Minnesota Vikings seem to be in a constant rebuilding mode." The Raiders will take on Moss' $7.25 million base salary for next season, a move which will save Minnesota nearly $2 million in cap space. The Vikings also have the 18th pick in this year's draft.

A crushing blow to Dante's career. It really hurts to lose your go-to guy.

He's a great player, but with the injury to his ankle/back now is the time to trade for max value.

Anybody: Is Napolian Harris good? I don't follow the AFC to close.

Sid Hartman: Fowler says Moss won't be dealt
February 21, 2005

Reggie Fowler was on a plane to New York from his Arizona home on Sunday morning. The man who is in line to buy the Vikings from Red McCombs was headed for a meeting with his partners in the prospective purchase, and also intended to meet with some NFL officials.

Fowler spoke about some of his plans for the team, and made it clear that his group would have no plans to trade Randy Moss, who has been the subject of trade talk since late in the season.

"I think we all have to have a set of standards," Fowler said. "I think Mr. Moss is, if not the finest, one of the finest receivers in the league today. And I think he's a winner. A lot of times when you want to win, you get excited.

"So I look forward to working with Randy, and I think he'll do all the things we need him to do. I don't know that you take some of the best players in the league and start trading them. We need those people to help us win, and I think Randy's one of those guys."

Fowler and McCombs had a news conference on Monday to announce the sale. There were questions about some items in Fowler's biography, and he returned to Minneapolis to meet with reporters Friday to explain them. On Sunday, a story in the Star Tribune examined his businesses and reported on a number of lawsuits and controversies surrounding the many companies Fowler owns.

"Most of it's not true," Fowler said. "I hope to prove that we are credible individuals and hope to get the people of Minneapolis excited about what could happen in the next 30 days or so."

For the first time, Fowler, who needs to be OK'd by the NFL before he can own the team, said he is confident that his group will be able to put together a plan to get a new stadium built for the Vikings.

Absolutely. The only better fit would have been if he had somehow been traded to the Portland Trail Blazers.

>>>A perfect fit.

That was my reaction as well. His personality should mix with the Raider culture well.

Oakland, huh?

I wonder how long it will take Randy to get a medical marijuana card?

That is hilarious. Oh sure, I bet he's VERY excited! But he'll get along just fine with the Oakland felons, I mean the Oakland fans.

Another nail in Rich Gannon's coffin, as if he needed one anyways.

Besides being younger and cheaper, Kerry Collins has a better arm and better deep ball.

Hasta, Rich!

I used to be a die hard Raider fan, growing up there and watching the team in the 60s even.......when they left for L.A. that great Oakland mystic (kind of like Pittsburgh's blue collar one) left and it never came back when they did. Up until they left, they were the team with the longest sell out attendance ..........now you can't even see them on tv at a home game......but you are right, Moss will fit in better there than some places but his antics like Owens in SF won't be tolerated for long.....

I'm a Viking fan.

This is good news. Moss is an off-field and on-field embarassment and the Vikings need a running back.

Although I'm glad Moss went to the AFC. He'll win a couple of games for the Raiders before he ends up in jail.
