Hotdog Recipes

Posted on 02/22/2005 7:15:56 PM PST by expatguy

Im selling "American Style" hotdogs overseas and wanted to have them named after the States and/or cities each having a different style, like a Chicago-Style Hotdog and a Texas-Style Hotdog.

I would appreciate any ideas and recipes from my fellow fringe freepers for other hotdog recipes.

Many Thanks

I used to go to the American embassies to get real hot dogs overseas. You should do well.

I'd sugest giving them giving them names that conjure up fond images, such as "ball park hot dogs", Drive-in theatre hot dogs", "carnival hot dogs", county fair hot dogs", "Boy Scout camp hot dogs", "beach fire hot dogs", "NY street vendor hot dogs", "Boardwalk Hot Dogs".

Brats boiled in beer then grilled. Top with grilled onions, jalepenos and sauerkraut. Add spicy mustard if you like. All on a regular hot dog bun (the big buns are too much bread). This is my spouse's top secret recipe and if he finds out I told you, I'll have to kill you....

Didn't read all the posts, so hope this is some fresh hot-dog news for you.

Down south they put coleslaw on hotdogs and call it a slaw dog. A regional treat from Virginia to Florida and I don't know how far west, but I'm from the north and I never heard of them up here. But I have southern relatives...

Rebelbase's slaw with chili and slaw & onions sounds great. Might I suggest some yellow mustard to go with that?

Brown mustard is for cold meat loaf sandwiches with dill pickle too. All this talking of food is making me hungry.

Finely chop up some cabbage(head kind not Thai or Bok-Choy), some carrots. Mix with Mayo, a bit of salt a pinch of sugar.
(Thinking about they might like oriental cabbages, so give those a try)

Put down the dog, (squirt of mustard is cool too) lay on the chili, lay on the slaw, sprinkle on the chopped onions.

You may do really well. I know a guy from NYC who opened up a pizza place in a little shack in rural Wales, UK.

He said his business was mostly on the weekends, but for the first year they were lined-up out the door and would wait for 1-2 hours to get a pie.

Hot dogs, no matter what you put on them, are not food for humans.

Yum-Yum's is great.

There's a place in Winston that's about 95 years old called Pulliams. No tables, just eat at the counter. Excellent dogs.(We were talking dogs on the NC board last week)

Whatever happened to the Caboose? There is only one place to eat in Winston; Mountain Fried Yardbird. It's never greasy.

Born, Yonkers, New York, 1946. Lived there until I went in the Army, 1968. Lived there on discharge (law school), 1972-1976. Have lived on Long Island ever since. Had my first chili dog, Yonkers 1959(?). You gotta remember, not all of us consider NYC as the totality of "New York", nor the arbitor of what New York is.

My mom, who is of German descent, born and raised in North Dakota and Montana used to cut up hot dogs (about 1/2 to 3/4 inch) in a bowl of sauerkraut then heat it in the oven. Served with hard rolls and mustard, mmmmm-mmm loved it when I was a kid. Now I'm making myself hungry.

"my brother in Michigan who introduced me to Brats on a bun sprinkled with curry powder"

Brats are the best. I seldom eat a HD. I cook my brats in a pan with a can of beer and a sliced onion. Then the brats go on the grill, served on a good roll with the onions (or kraut). I will try the curry powder.

Here's the take on American dogs from "Super Duper Weenie" in Fairfield, CT - one of the top ten hot dog joints in America, according to Gourmet magazine (but then, what do they know about hot dogs?).
