~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XVIII~
February 21, 2005 | bentfeather ~Poets of the Lair~

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

THE SILENT CLIFFS.....

You left me to cry
as the lonely gull
in search of land
but at sea.

You left me troubled
lost in the echo
of your laughter,
or as the humming
of a passing bee.

I am as parched
as the sands of
the desert and
as cold as winters
blizzards.

I am as lonely
as the silent cliffs
staring in solitude
and as crushed as
falls rose waiting
to wither.

WHAT IS A POEM?

A lump in the throat,
A sense of some wrong,
A vessel for sharing
A sigh or a song;

A cry of contrition,
A penance, a plea,
A moment for letting
Your fancy run free.

A sifting of ashes
Of passion and pain,
A balm for the heartaches
That ever remain.

A glimpse of redemption
Dispensed from above,
A means of expressing
The language of love.

For none but the poet
Is truly aware
Of the height of heaven
And the depth of despair.

My muse is definitely evil.
She gave me four lines yesterday, and then retrieved them from my head the second I tried to write them down.
THEN she taunted me by waving fragments of the lines in front of me.

Astronomers find 'invisible' galaxy

A British-led team of astronomers has discovered an object
that appears to be an invisible galaxy made almost entirely
of dark matter. The team, using radio telescopes in England
and Puerto Rico, found a mass of hydrogen equivalent to about
100 million suns in a group of galaxies about 50 million light-
years away, but located in vicinity of the relatively nearby
constellation Virgo. The dark galaxy, the first ever
detected -- which astronomers named VIRGOHI21 -- rotates
like a galaxy but contains no stars. Without any stars to
give light, astronomers could verify its existence only by
using radio telescopes. Scientists have proposed the existence
of a mysterious substance called dark matter to explain why the
gravitation that holds galaxies together is six times stronger
than can be explained by visible matter. VIRGOHI21 actually was
first detected in 2000, but it has taken astronomers nearly five
years to rule out all other possible explanations for what it
could be. "The Universe has all sorts of secrets still to reveal
to us, but this shows that we are beginning to understand how to
look at it in the right way," said team member Jon Davies of
Cardiff University. "It's a really exciting discovery."

LunaRed

I just discovered that you wrote this poem some time ago?

Had I of been on line last night when you posted this in `your time zone` I would have been absolutely stunned. Then, today to learn it was written past tense and about another kind of relationship.

I was here at that time in `my geographical time zone` penning more of my story that I am trying so hard to write.

I noticed today by the time on your post was when I stopped writing to retire for my night. It is almost like you completed my page at that moment of my laying my pen down.

What is so fascinating to me, is that your poem was about a young teen love, and my story is about a collie who was the love of my life. Yet the paradox of your poem, our lives.

I connect with the sea, lighthouses, seagulls, bumblebees,

You used descriptives such as laughter, echoes, cold winters, blizzards, solitude, cry, search, troubled, silent, lonely, crushed rose

Then your title;

`The Silent Cliffs`

Really this poem is so rich LunaRed, so feeling, and it will forever be a treasure to me. I have placed it inside a journal next to my writings of my day yesterday.

February 23 2005

near 6-pm

Marks the one year milestone of my collie falling off of the steep sloped 55 foot Cliff onto a solid iced lake below me.

She lived for a most incredible seven days of intense care and love exchange. I am trying so hard to write about her gifts she left with me.

A little gift to you *

William Blake

He who binds to himself a joy

Doth not the winged life destroy

But he who kisses the joy as it flies

Lives in Eternity`s sunrise.

What a pearl *

I think this defines the meaning of `What Is A Poem` with pure simplicity, yet at the same time, opulent comes to mind.

a treasure find :)
